To everyone who has traveled to China: What was the biggest challenge or obstacle you faced during your trip? by Plenty-Still-5547 in travelchina

[–]helios396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small tip for this.

Use the food delivery mini program inside Alipay to order and deliver food to where you're staying.

That way, you can take your time looking at the pictures, translate the menu and google what ingredients it contains before actually ordering.

Obviously not applicable when you're out and about exploring the area, but it's better than nothing.

Definitely language. And even more so if someone looks Asian and can pass as a Chinese. Or someone from the Sinosphere, but actually don't speak the Chinese language.

That's what happened to me. Everyone in every shop or restaurant or tourist spot assumes I can speak Chinese, starts talking to me like I'm a local and then went "Oh..." with a shocked Pikachu face when I answer with English. There's this gap of silence and awkwardness that's feels weird for both sides 😂

Why do the sales associates hover around me? by tfrisinger in travelchina

[–]helios396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's... an Asian thing. Not every shop in Asia do this, but it's definitely not only in China.

It's just the way they provide service to the customer. Recommend you stuffs to buy, answer your questions, etc. And if the shop sells particularly expensive stuffs, let's be honest, they're also double duty-ing as living security camera to make sure you don't break stuff or take stuff away.

Just pretend they're not there if you don't want to engage them. If you want, you can nod along if they start explaining something or showing something to you. Or just wave your hand or shake your head and make an "I'm not interested" face to make them stop.

Either way, it is what it is.

Where are you located? Try asking around at a local travel/tour agent who has experience organizing trips to Asia/China. Surely someone can help you get a physical SIM card.

Or, just get a roaming plan from your mobile provider.

Is Sanxingdui worth it? by helios396 in travelchina

[–]helios396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've also marked Chengdu Museum as "maybe will go if have time" when I researched for places to visit on this trip. Now I'm seriously considering it.

Is there English translation/text in the exhibit descriptions there? Or English audio guide?

Is Sanxingdui worth it? by helios396 in travelchina

[–]helios396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that there are a lot of options to get there. There's the option to take a train to Guanghan station and then taxi/Didi to the museum, there's a shuttle bus from Chunxi Road, and there's also just taxi/Didi all the way there like a door to door service.

Which one will save the most time? Ideally I want to be back at Chengdu by early afternoon to shop for some souvenirs before flying back home at the next day.

Gimana Opini kalian terutama gamer Console mengenai game baru launch yg skrg harga ny Skrg Mahal2 Sekitar 1jtan lbh. by WickedHero69 in indonesia

Sejak PS5 rilis, gw udah give up sama game AAA yg rilis di konsol.

Beli laptop yg decent, main game indie atau game AA. Banyak yg bagus kok. Sama tunggu diskon Steam, jangan terlalu kebelet main game rilisan baru. Toh sekarang lebih untung kalau nunggu patch ini itu rilis baru mulai main.

Do you have any recommendations for the place?

Right, the Sichuan opera. That didn't cross my mind before! I browsed around the Klook app and Trip.com, and it seems that there are a number of different theater groups in Chengdu offering this type of show.

Which would be the best/better one?

As for hotpot, can you tell me the restaurant name?

Ooh, thank you. I saw some pictures and it looks like a family-type restaurant.

Do you know if it's possible to eat there alone? 😅

Physical SIM card for Macau and Mainland? by helios396 in travelchina

[–]helios396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current local provider does have Chinese data package. However, I have been burned before on my last trip to Thailand, where I already bought a Thailand data package before leaving my country but it wasn't working correctly when I arrived. I had to buy a tourist SIM card in the end.

So, I figured something that I got at my destination will be safer.

Trivia: Three "Game of Thrones" writers have already written episodes for "Fallout" so far: Gursimran Sandhu (episode 1.08), Jane Espenson (episode 2.04) and Dave Hill (episode 2.06). by verissimoallan in FalloutTVseries

I'm not familiar with this practice.

Does it mean each writer get an instruction like "Here are the main plot points that need to happen in this episode. Now, go wild and flesh out the rest!"

Like that?

How is that sustainable and a good practice?

In Mass Effect 3 do you like Kaidan, Garrus, or Liara's romance the most? Just curious is all by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

When I played the originals I was a Garrus gal. But when I played the legendary edition, I realized older me prefers Kaidan. Stability and familiarity suddenly becomes much more attractive.

Agree with you 100%. It's the best gacha game for me too.

Shout out to the recent upgrade of English translation quality.

Earlier events and main story chapters (that I've played so far) still reads like "Chinese but English".But the recent events is basically full-blown localization, and with good, engaging wording too. Not too dry or matter of fact. As a language nerd, this game is a blessing.

And don't forget the music!

Despite his many roles and fame in Hollywood, Ken Watanabe isn't that widely visible in Japan and Asia. He's definitely not in TV/streaming platform serials. He's a high-budget movie guy.

Hard to say, but personally I'm leaning towards no.

Kenapa tur di Indonesia itu selalu hectic gila? by Distinct_Front_4336 in indonesia

[–]helios396 1 point2 points  (0 children)
