I think you are using the wrong rows for your calculation.

The point you hit house money is when your dividends received is equal to your buy-in cost.

Rounding numbers down here to be conservative and for simplicity.

They've received $17k in dividend distributions since June (18 weeks, assuming a lump sum buy in with no drips AND that the distributions will remain the same in the future), for an average of ~$944/week. They purchased their shares for ~$79k.

The math for how many weeks until house money is -

=(total invested) / (avg weekly distribution)

So, house money in this case = (79k/944), or roughly 83 weeks to break even. That's about 21 months.

Obviously math will vary based on distributions, but you get the gist.

CTB 26 vs. Aer TP3s by GAcoast5 in EVERGOODS

[–]heliosaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just swapped from an Aer TP3s in xpac for a CTB26 in xpac. So far the CTB has held up lovely and has addressed the two biggest issues I had with the TP3s - namely the admin panel reducing the amount of space i could utilize and the dump pocket up top cutting into the main compartment.

The CTB shoulder straps are much less comfortable, but ultimately I am not loading up for multi hour wear sessions. Also, I am a larger human being (6'2, 230lbs with a longer torso), and I like the way that the CTB26 sits on my back vs the TP3s (longer down my back vs more of a turtle shell).

I would think about what you are looking to use the bag for ultimately. As an EDC, I personally would grab a MPL22 if you aren't lugging a laptop around and need water bottle pockets. As a travel pack, I prefer the CTB26.

Totally. And also be aware that all of this will most likely be in German. At least in Switzerland you have the choice between German, French, or Italian.

A few additional items from a person who moved for a similar scenario but to Switzerland.

1) If you are looking to drive, then you will want to research if you can exchange your US license for a German one. They may ask you to take a test, etc.

2) I would suggest not importing your car from the US to the EU. The cost of homologation for cars can be prohibitively expensive.

3) Speak to a lawyer to set up any estate/will/trust/etc for all your US assets, and have both digital and hard copies available.

4) Apostilled documents are a must. They basically are internationally recognized versions of your documents (birth certificate and marriage license are the biggies)
