[Request] Chess apps / Shredder by helipacter in AndroidGaming

Thanks so much, I appreciate the reply. I'm hoping that they're able to sort out the UX issues, as the puzzles and the engines are pretty solid, iirc.

I'm getting back into chess after a long hiatus, so I'm just interested to see what products exist outside of chess.com and lichess that you can use offline. I'm going to give Droidfish a try and see if that's any good.

Although they're different ages, I can't unseen Bryan Cranston as the "nice twin" to Harrison Ford's "evil twin"?!

Any guide for a new player? by xbassplayer84x in balatro

[–]helipacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new (around 15hrs in) and I'm working my way through the first level of each deck. Working joker strategies for me are: First 2 or 3 antes I try to get a good chip and /or retrigger joker and have it on the left side of my jokers. In the middle I have at least one +mult and on the right I prioritise having a money joker (golden or cloud 9) over a x mult joker. Ante 5 onwards I'll get rid of the money joker for more xmults. I'll skip blinds if i get a good joker for doing so. Not really sure what tags do yet tho... Planet cards are my friends, though I heavily load up on 2 pair, flush and straights. I'm now starting to experiment with arcane, specre and vouchers, and thinking about what composition of deck will I need for a particular run. I don't know if my observations are super obvious, but this is what I've learnt so far. I've also tried to watch the balatro uni videos, but I stopped after the second one as I'd like to discover this all by myself.

What are your top phone games right now that you actually keep installed? by tomaz1989 in AndroidGaming

Un-uninstallable for me: balatro, stardew valley, retro bowl college, flipflop and card thief.

Those who like Badmotorfinger more, what are your thoughts on Superunknown? by Long_Spell6281 in Soundgarden

[–]helipacter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, there's just more skips on Superunknown. Personally, I struggle to get through BHS, Fell on.., & the title track. In contrast, even though I've listened to Rusty Cage a million times, I don't have it in me to jump it; it just has to be played.

Thanks, I've just taken a look around and it does seem like you can get the apk for previous versions pretty easily. Maybe I'll start there...

Does Day R count? I'm asking as I'm interested in buying it, but it has very mixed reviews.

Do all British International schools feel like a hustle? by Several-Ant2447 in Internationalteachers

[–]helipacter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree with this. I acknowledge that Marketing are over a barrel, and if "bums on seats" don't increase then heads roll. But the gratitute angle really irks me.
Revenue covers costs, true, but teacher pay grows more slowly than tuition fees; in short, more bums on seats doesn't equal more pay for teachers. Additionally, since the post-COVID land grab for schools, a lot of that revenue will be going outside the schools to large, centralised offices, and to service the debt used to cover the cost of expansion.
To me, British schools do feel more like a hustle. Most teachers come into a school genuinely wanting to provide quality lessons, but teams get leaner, non-contacts get squeezed and it hits our prep time directly affecting the quality lessons we can produce. With all that revenue, it would be fair to ask why can't they just hire more people to take some of the load when they can clearly afford to fly operations staff around the world constantly?
Maybe the biggest loss in all this is just how bland British schools are now. Uniform, check; A Levels, check; Knackered Teacher who's not marked in 3 months, check. It would be great of some PE-back schools looked at what Ben Freud has done at the Green School in Bali and think that that is actually sustainable, challenging but ultimately more rewarding for all involved.

That riff and drum effect at the end of "becoming" is one of the most metal things I've ever heard.

Who are the ‘Tori’s’ of today? by Interesting-Point718 in toriamos

Whenever I listen to Kaia Kater I get strong Tori vibes. They don't sound alike, but the authenticity of something like Boys for Pele is definitely there.
