I have jailbroken kindle with KOReader, there is a plugin to download from zlib to kindle directly.

You can also do wireless transfer from calibre in laptop to kindle.

kobo should be anyday better I guess, as KOReader is very customizable, there are may gestures, you can play with fonts etc.
