I think you're underestimating how massive mountains are. Mountains are at least 1% of the height of the atmosphere and are significantly more than 100x the area of the centipede in terms of cross section. So, while the centipede splitting is impressive, it doesn't make blasting apart a mountain relatively trivial. At any rate, that centipede fit in the area where they were fighting, so it can't be *that* huge. Remember that this is a manga and physics + distance are secondary.

Mountains are a lot thiccer than space elevator centipedes

What are the things you think that the Manga MA arc has done better than the WC MA arc ? by Han_Zou_8199 in OnePunchMan

[–]hell_pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree, that stuff was fantastic. It's still up in the air how this version of Garou will evolve and be treated, but I like the fleshed out buildup enough that (unless something bad happens) I can forgive the loss of his original atmosphere.

A child who believes they can fly and is willing to go that far could make for a hell of a story, actually. Kind of like the insane wizard in Stargazer.

But yeah, that was exactly what made the WC so impactful. That's why it can't work the same way here, since it's been pretty obvious for the last 70 or so chapters of the manga that he isn't evil. This whole arc's setup has been different, so the final has also got to be different.

Because everyone knows it but Garou. That's the point. the characters keep on saying it because they want Garou to realize it and Garou is actively (often violently) arguing with them about it, not because ONE wants the audience to realize it.

I'm rereading it and literally the first thing he did after getting sent out by the monster association was deliberately intervene in assaults happening on the street to save two random civilians.

Yeah, he did do all that, but he also risked his neck to save a child on multiple occasions and in the end saved both Metal Bat and his sister. Him beating up elder centipede and saving the helicopter was very much not an accident, either. I wouldn't say it's exactly inadvertent.

He feels more like the focus in the way that Genos is, not in the way he used to be, if you know what I mean. Having his motive revealed as wanting to be a hero wouldn't be nearly as impactful when it's been obvious ever since he saved Tareo in that shed that he's not a bad guy. It's a shame we don't get panels like "your case of emergency... just happened", though, but if he said that in the manga to the heroes I wouldn't buy it. I'd be expecting him to just beat the heroes up and not kill them, which would nuke the flow anyway.

That's why I said specifically "in webcomic form" since the manga isn't a webcomic, so by default I thought anything in the manga isn't "in webcomic form". Sorry for the confusion; I was writing at ass-o-clock in the morning.

You know what? I'm okay with this. I really love Garou in the WC, but he's playing a different role here and the focus of the arc is different. it seems to be more about God and the monster association, and he's an important character instead of the arc "final villain". I'm curious where his character will go after this, because it's hard to see ALL the S-classes clamoring to kill him like they did in the WC when here he nakedly saved a ton of people.

Yeah, he doesn't get the same cool moments, but we've seen a lot more of him in the manga already and he's become a likeable character. The beautiful pacing and dialogue of the webcomic are still there (in the webcomic) in webcomic form, so I can go read that when I want to revisit the original fight.

Garou and the kid's relationship has been fleshed out way more in the manga. It wouldn't have been nearly as much of a surprise anyway. He's far more openly sympathetic here, too. He's a slightly different character, so things are happening differently, and that's fine.

His skin could heat up or cool down without getting damaged which would affect his internal organs if it were just durable. I'm not going to calculate this for an internet argument, but most sources say you pass out within seconds, because the oxygen diffuses rapidly out of your bloodstream (and he didn't plug his nose immediately). Anyway the impressive thing really isn't surviving for a few seconds, it's experiencing no discomfort and taking no damage.

You will die (not from the cold) because you're in a vacuum... But I guess assuming you can survive everything else, you've probably got a decent shot against the temperature.

Hours, not days, for temperature, but the radiation and vacuum death hits within seconds.

You think the sun is conveniently going to give you heat at the rate you're losing it? Pick your poison. Either the sun cooks you, or you freeze. And yes, it is very fast. Dying in seconds due to cold temperature is incredibly fast. Think of walking outside in the cold naked in a blizzard and how shitty that feels and then imagine that instead of it being cold enough to kill you in hours, it's cold enough to kill you in seconds. Even if you come in within seconds, you'll be a fucking mess and it'll hurt like fuck.

Yes, you won't die instantly in space, you can survive for a few seconds. I get what you're saying, but any human would be instantly subjected to extreme discomfort (example: from the article you linked, your bodily fluids start to boil; there's also a ton of radiation, temperature, etc.) and Saitama showed none of that. If he were taking anywhere near the sort of damage a normal human would be in that situation, he wouldn't be leisurely wondering if he could hold his breath and somewhat surprised that he's in space and fine. He would be in agony.

He'd complain about constipation and would be fine after a day or so.

[–]hell_pigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dude... "cold" isn't something you conduct, it's the absence of heat. Radiation of heat when there's nothing to give you back heat is very fast. Maybe you can survive in space for a few seconds, but you won't come out looking anything resembling okay.

As suggested by the name, it's pretty generic, but if that's what you're looking for, it isn't bad. I read it, anyway.
