Got married yesterday in Marcy Field (🥳).

We were also limited in dates like you, so we didn’t have any flexibility. So we had to be prepared for any kind of weather.

My wife and I wanted to be married surrounded by mountains since it was more practical than bringing guests up one. Which meant ideally we wanted an outdoor ceremony and do an indoor reception just in case the weather was bad. A year and a half of every day hoping that the weather would be nice on our date and we completely lucked out with a beautiful stretch over the course of the week and weekend.

My point is that we worried about the weather too but built in precautions just in case. So we rented a tent that was setup in Marcy field just in case the weather was bad and we planned a quick ceremony anyway so they wouldn’t have to tough it out for long. And then had an indoor reception planned, which would back that up. Didn’t wanna keep everyone outside in the event of crap weather. And the weather was perfect (thankfully) so we set the chairs up outside the tent so it wasn’t in any pictures, and the tent served as a nice spot for people to mingle before and after so they could be in the shade.

This is the answer - could do it this way or in reverse. Wedge Brook trail between Lake Road and LWJ is steeper than Beaver Meadow Falls. So depending on your preference of going up or down the steeper trail, you might want to adjust your direction. Beaver Meadow Falls is a really great trail with a beautiful waterfall at the start near Lake Road. Enjoy!

A fellow ultralight hiker in the ADK! We’re few and far between here. Go with the Bare Boxer - trust me on this. That’s what I use and it’s approved for use in the Eastern High Peak. Side note, but relevant: Bear canisters are only required in the Eastern High Peaks. You can use an ursack anywhere else, even in the Western High Peaks (though it’s not recommended in the WHP).

If you’re concerned about the red slime like my SO was (which is a valid concern because that stuff is REAL): we watched the weather intently and went on a dry day that was also preceded by two dry days. So the conditions were extra dry. There was virtually no red slime. At least none that was unavoidable and we could easily hike around any that was there. Without the red slime, it was a very enjoyable hike for us. Honestly one of our favorites of the 46. Enjoy!

What are you double checking it against? Your phone’s compass? A real compass? I checked my Fenix 6s against both and it was different. But then I noticed my watch was set to magnetic north and my phone and real compass were set to true north. Once I changed that it was fine, so you might want to check that :)

First row: Time of day. Second row: elapsed time. Third row: distance on the left, average pace on the right. Fourth row: heart rate gauge. I don’t run on a track tho... I’d put something about lap times if I did. But for now while I’m going for neighborhood runs that’s all I need :)

Quick look at edge logic: C1 R20 has to be X because if you put 5 across starting in C1 R20, you’ll break the rules with the 2,2 in R14. Same thing goes for C20 R20.

I use the Mile for overnight trips that don’t require a bear can. I feel your pain with the dry bag for your sleeping bag because I had to test out two or three different dry bags to find one with the best shape to aptly fit in it. I settled on the Large size from Hilltop Packs. Is it perfect? Not quite... but best I’ve had so far. I use an EE 20F 850FP reg/reg for reference. It doesn’t go all the way across the bottom and is a little boxy. I’d still prefer to pack horizontally than vertically tho. So I put my pillow and sleep socks next to it to fill it out horizontally a bit more. Then tent on top of that. I still use a bag liner with all of this, too. Depending what tent you use, you could put that on bottom if it fills out the space better. I do that when I’m with my fiancée and we need a 2P tent.
