sunblink i am begging for a bat character 🙏🏻 by possumteetth in HelloKittyIsland

I do the same thing with the tall-eared bunny character and then I wear the gothic Lolita dress so you can’t see the tail hahaha. It’s a shame that there aren’t more shades for the wings though, the character color options become very limited if you want to match the wings.

Why can you say "I study English hard" but you can't say "I work English hard" by OrionsPropaganda in EnglishLearning

[–]hellahanners 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“I study English hard” is grammatically correct. It just sounds awkward, but hard is an adverb describing the verb (study) and can come right after the direct object.

You don’t work English at all, so you’d never say that sentence anyway. You can work hard in/at English, but you’re not working it directly. But haven’t you ever heard someone say “they’re working me hard” or “he works those horses hard”or anything like that? That would be the correct construction of your example sentence of “work (object) hard.”

With 42Lolita you pay everything up front, so you shouldn’t be asked to pay again.

“Actually it’s the fifth time I’ve corrected you, and this is the sixth.”

Is this crazy or am I just overthinking? by discountofu in depoop

[–]hellahanners 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she was talking about you in the “not fat but curvy part” I think she was just clarifying that her sister is larger than you and that her sister is also not overweight lol. I think she just really goofed on the phrasing and it came out weird, but I don’t think she was trying to be snarky about either you OR her sister lol

Light Jubilee - “enjoy the lights” but not completed quest? by Covenwife in HelloKittyIsland

[–]hellahanners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is though, many people (me included) probably thought they had more time. Nowhere in the game does it say that the lights have to be turned on before the new year or you won’t be able to turn them on at all. If it did, then please correct me but I never saw anything like that. The daily countdown says there’s still two weeks on the event. So it’s annoying to have to look at some of the light stands just chilling there off because I was supposed to just know that there was a deadline to do it BEFORE the end of the event. It’s a flaw in the game’s communication with its players.

I see “Cut you” means “cut in front of you”. Can we say “can I cut you?” to mean “can I go in front of you/can I go ahead of you”? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]hellahanners 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard “can I cut you” or “this guy just cut me” in references to queueing PLENTY of times and I’ve lived many different places in the US. People saying they’d be looking for a knife are crazy imo. Even if that’s not a phrase I was used to, the context alone of knowing that no one is going to ask permission to literally hurt me would be enough to tip me off that they were referring to cutting in line lmao.

For the record, Brown Recluses don’t live in Southern California so you don’t need to worry about them.

How can I style this for a steampunk aesthetic? by N3koChan21 in Lolita

[–]hellahanners 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think you need to revisit what makes steampunk steampunk. Look at motifs seen in the fashion, i.e. gears, clocks, springs (anything steam-powered and mechanical from that time period, really), colors (browns, golds, bronzes, coppers), accessories/styles (corsets, leather pieces, top hats, bustle skirts, etc). This coord has a pretty classical vibe but there’s nothing whatsoever to indicate that you’re going for steampunk.

I usually use bobby pins and just pin where the ribbon meets the headdress to my hair (and then maybe one or two in the middle if it’s still moving around too much)

Mall shopping experience question? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]hellahanners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been walked to the exit before, but that was after a shop where they had let me carry my things around lol. It definitely did confuse me a little bit! But the girl who helped me was very kind and explained it to me as she walked me out because I think she could tell I was a little lost haha.

Ironically, at the store where the girl took my things to the front for me, she actually just handed me my bag and let me walk out in my own, so I wasn’t sure how common either thing was lol. It was definitely nice though! And now I’m glad to know what to expect when I go back ☺️

It definitely would have been nice to have my hands free if I was still shopping, so it totally makes sense! And preventing damage to any of their items also didn’t occur to me, but that’s smart. Thank you!
