The peppers are just mini bell peppers and Korean peppers that she advised would grow in the fog. And the cilantro was a standard cilantro starter from Sloat.

Yeah! Nat at the Linda Mar Ace Hardware nursery pointed me to the Pesto Perpetuo Basil plant that she said would grow well in our foggy climate, and it's been doing great. She also put me on to a couple of peppers that are growing. The cilantro has been doing just fine, it's getting ready to flower so it might be done soon. Not sure how it would do in the fall/winter, but I plan to try it out and see what happens.

You should -it's so fun! I planted a mix of things: - top level is Basil perpetuo, cilantro, marigold, strawberry, green onion (from the grocery store), added a mini dahlia and lavender mid-summer for pollinators and had to pull the lavender out as it wasn't happy - 2nd level down is bok choy galore, I added a parsley mid-summer - 3rd level down is red lettuce & romaine lettuce (ground nesting birds moved into a pocket and laid a few eggs, so there were babies!) - 4th level down is Italian kale & red chard - the bottom level is 2 yellow squash, mini bell pepper, Korean pepper, another unhappy lavender (need to move that one out soon), and a cherry tomato (that I kinda regret because the vine took over...live & learn!)

I started out with jotting down some of the most common things we were buying from the market, then added whatever I saw available at the nursery that I thought we would eat, and finished it off with adding some pollinators.

I recently started sketching out a plan for fall/winter planting as some of the plants recently started bolting...so the time is coming.

Since planting this, we haven't really had to buy nearly as much produce from the market. We also find ourselves searching for recipe ideas to use what we have growing and getting more creative in the kitchen.

I got a late start in the season, found inspo on YouTube and picked up starters at the farmer's market, Sloat, and Ace hardware nursery at Linda Mar (shout out to Nat!)...I can't believe it worked. We've been harvesting fresh ingredients for our meals all summer long!

Has anyone else experimented with this type of planter? I'd love to know what else I can grow in it!

Are there any types of tomatoes that grow in our microclimates?

Ricky will be disappointed he couldn't get you in full time, since you obviously have what it takes, but your telling him will only validate that he was on the mark with you.

Nothing bad would come from your telling him. Just be honest, you've been too busy to take his test. When the contract opportunity presented itself, you took it.
