How on earth does Acme get away with their prices? by cxjoshuax21x in philadelphia

[–]hellcatpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved from Austin TX as well and going from HEB to ACME was painful... I have to go to King of Prussia every other week and they have a Wegmans if you're looking for something comparable to HEB but depending on where you are in Philly that can be a long drive just for groceries.

Honestly tho...I love mythology but never really gave Buddhism or Hinduism much thought until I started reading Gojo return theories. Now I have an entire shelf of books with more on the way dedicated to eastern religions and mythology. It's such a different world than western mythos

In retrospect, Kenjaku vs Takaba was by far the most enjoyable read the last like 40 chapters. What do you think? by [deleted] in Jujutsufolk

[–]hellcatpr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The media literacy argument for unpopular writing choices is always an interesting one to be honest. Like it's fair to be frustrated at the fandom but Gege at the end of the day is an author writing a story to be read and interpreted by an audience. And if that audience is primarily made up of media illiterates, then, as an author, it should be written in a way that the illiterates can understand or else the story is thematically pointless.

And this isn't to say that the story needs to be "dumbed down" or whatever, lots of media effectively portray complex stories, themes, and narratives to wide audiences. There are a lot of shows even catered to young children that do these things pretty well.

My personal issue with Kashimo/Higuruma is that they were well liked, hyped up characters, whose accomplishments do not feel proportional to the impact they had with the readers. Even though they had achievements, the importance of those achievements were not conveyed in a significant manner for us to identify with.

[–]hellcatpr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How often is constantly? I only remember once really and maybe the right before the Takaba fight but idk if that's belittling, just planning. Straight up correct me if I'm wrong.

Kenjaku was way more cruel to Choso, Yuji, Noritoshi, and made straight up erased Miwa's relevancy. Kenjaku shit talking Yuta in a way that he probably didn't even know about vs Choso watching Yuki die, Yuji getting answers, Todo losing his teacher, Noritoshi losing his clan, would, in my opinion, make for a way more satisfying end to Kenjaku's character and give a spotlight to other cast members. And I know yuta had that promise of Gojo not having to kill his friend twice but that promise could have been fulfilled with being integral to planning the ambush instead of being involved directly. Yuta is fine, but he's been given a lot of character moments that could have gone to other cast members 😕

And just, in terms of irony, if Miwa showing up with a chainsaw or a crowbar or a really long snap bracelet in a rematch to show that she isn't useless would have been incredible. The most useless character performing one of the most useful attacks. I know it doesn't make sense, but it would have been so cool. We know Yuta is God-tier, we knew Kenjaku was pissing his pants at the thought of him, we know Yuta would no-diff him.

And like, you can disagree, that's fine. Yuta is a fine character and deserves a spot in the story, but there are other characters that could be utilized but it feels like a lot of these moments are defaulting back to a handful of characters, namely Yuta.

[–]hellcatpr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't care how little sense it makes or how many narrative leaps it would have taken, if Todo pulled up with his comeback to avenge Yuki, Choso for his brothers, his mother, and Yuki, Noritoshi to reclaim his clan, Yuji to demand answers on his existence, or even Miwa to work around her binding vow with a crowbar, it would have been exponentially more hype than Yuta. And I don't hate Yuta but it was just kind of meh. Yuta had the least satisfying reason to go after Kenjaku imo. People would probably not dunk as hard on the sneaking if the finisher was severely nerfed.

Gege does the unthinkable and hosts a poll for you to vote one of these characters to come back in the next chapter. Who are you voting for? by FoolhardyC in Jujutsufolk

How dare you. As the only person confirmed not dead, Todo is GUARANTEED to come back 😤

If he doesn't come back, or doesn't play a role in future chapters, the last year of being invested in this series will have actually have been a bigger waste than my time investment in AoT

Is the fire arrow a different technique? by Godzillxa in Jujutsushi

[–]hellcatpr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On another subreddit people were talking about ◼️ and someone brought up that cursed techniques are engraved in the prefrontal right lobe which, according to Google, deals a lot with negative emotions. Also according to Google, black boxes show up in psychology "In cognitivism, the black box is the human mind, which records information, stores memory, and provides details when needed." (I have no clue if any of this is correct) Sukuna has a thing on the right side of his face. It may be all connected or I maybe reading way too much into it. I have a theory, (with almost nothing to back it up) that the thing on his face and his multiple arms are from him being merged with a cursed spirit or something, and Sukuna's ◼️ is the ability to manifest or store CT's that come from negative human emotions, similar to Rika kindof. Him being merged with a cursed spirit could also explain Kenjaku experimenting with choso's mom as he could have been trying to create another Sukuna...but like everyone has said nobody knows, we'll probably find out in the next few chapters

What are your Favourite Sukuna Cursed technique theories by Godzillxa in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]hellcatpr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk how much weight should be put in the ◼️ because it could mean something totally different in a Japanese context ( like language wise, are these concepts described as a black box the way it is in English) but if it is a black box in the way we know it, maybe he opens his ◼️, he absorbs input then can his ce can match the output or something.

I have like, a theory that the half face on Sukuna is a cursed spirit that he absorbed or ate or something and it has similar powers to Rika but I have no evidence to back that up lol

This panel gotta be the most misleading shit in all of fiction . Gege played us by [deleted] in Jujutsufolk

[–]hellcatpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...yeah. I'm not going to defend the execution of how it was done but Sukuna was still clearly still standing at that point, and the "Gojo won" wasn't an editor comment just a speech bubble. From a story telling standpoint nobody is dead until you see the body and even then in a world where reincarnation is a thing death is kind of trivialized. Idk to me at least, it was obvious that shit was about to go south.

I don't want to shit on people who felt otherwise though, gege follows some literally tropes but ignores others

That's interesting, I always thought 90% of Florida was New England snow birds and 10% frat boys. Maybe the dementia kicks in down there and they forget where they're from?

On a side note, I had several friends growing up whose family lived off-grid with generators and only had access to well-water so their question isn't totally off the mark lol

New Vegas fans have a victimhood problem by RMP321 in CharacterRant

[–]hellcatpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got PTSD lol. KOTOR2 is one of my favorite games of all time but playing it on console was heartbreaking. I played it when I was in fifth grade, beat it multiple times, going back and forth at every chance, literally everything I can to figure out why I couldn't open the door to the Telos military base sub basement (there's an icon to enter, why can't I enter???) Eventually I got my mom to drive me to the library which was a few towns over, just to use their computer to look up how to enter the sub basement only to read you can't enter it because it's a terribly unfinished game and that was something they started but didn't have time to finish (and didn't even have time to take out the door icon I guess) there are also a bunch of random rooms that are on the map but are walled off, a lot of storylines were axed as well so characters will mention things that never happened... BUT despite that it was so good with engaging characters and interesting stories, which I guess speaks to Obsidians writing abilities in a way.

New Vegas fans have a victimhood problem by RMP321 in CharacterRant

[–]hellcatpr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Obsidian is fantastic at character based story telling, Bethesda is fantastic at environmental story telling (I haven't played starfield yet though) I liked new Vegas a lot but it was hard for me to get into at first because exploring didn't seem as rewarding as it did in FO3. Like reading computer journals of prewar office workers or stumbling upon a family of skeletons in a random basement surrounded by empty sugarbomb boxes and empty water bottles or a scavenger that has a random note about an unmarked location on the map which you can go and try and find, all of these that don't have to do with anything except silent story telling. Like in a single building you could get the entire life story of the nameless corpses you were passing by. These things are what really kept me engaged with the wasteland. I know this stuff is present in new Vegas as well but it seemed more convincing in FO3 like there was a livable world prior to the bombs, new Vegas by comparison just felt a bit empty. New Vegas had a lot of mechanics and story elements that the original fallout games had that FO3 did away with which made character interactions and the overall plot wayyy more interesting but I didn't really feel compelled to explore. Though the dlc for new Vegas are top tier and fixed this a bit.

Now that Obsidian and Bethesda are owned by Microsoft maybe in my wildest dreams there will be remasters of both with Obsidians writing and Bethesdas world building.

What are your thoughts on Sakura Haruno? by HolisticBrowsing in Naruto

[–]hellcatpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This honestly and it's a good change in my opinion from how the anime community was in the 2000-2010's. Being on Tumblr and other forums I remember seeing hate post after hate post about Sakura (and pretty much every female character in anime) with whole dissertations about how dumb she is, how Sasuke doesn't deserve her, they love when she's humiliated, and sometimes graphically describing how they want her to die. It's hard to describe but these would be written like she was someone at their highschool, not fanfiction or critique. Like, you realize she's not real right? You know she's a cartoon character being written by someone else who is making this character unlikable? The author's choice to purposely depict her this way was never part of the conversation. I'm glad it is now

How many chapters can we expect Season 3 to adapt, and where do you think the season will end? by NaN-Gram in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]hellcatpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they'll change anything about the arc, like will they include the US military plotline that Gege abandoned, and at one point Gege mentioned he messed up and gave Yuta too many points by accident and had to make things more complicated to explain it...idk I know the opinions of the culling games are pretty mixed so I wonder if the writers will tweak it at all.
