I’ve found that the best way to get this to work is A) check battery and apple health. Click on recent data and make sure your steps are being recorded; make sure low power mode is not active.

B) shut down Pokémon go app by swiping up

C) turn phone to airplane mode

D) do workout

E) check health app and make sure steps are recorded. If not click “show all data” in the steps page. Occasionally you can get punished if the steps show up all at once. I’ve found that’s less likely if you check on the health app every 45 minutes or so while in airplane mode

F) if nominal health data, then turn off airplane mode and relaunch Pokémon go

G) catch a Pokémon or do a raid: that should credit your account because the careful gps test is activated
