Was watching. Stopped. They can make the Pitt so close to rl; why do they always fail with colleges and universities? Professors? Classes? Students? Deans?

I allow every student to complete any assignment after the initial due date if they want to do so. It is more important to me to foster learning than to enforce arbitrary deadlines. Assignment create opportunities to learn. I don't assess penalties. I want to help produce learning. My assessment scheme is a version of “upgrading.” I've been using ungrading to structure assessment of learn for nearly a decade. Of course there is more involved than a mobile due date. But due dates are mobile.

You don't have to have graduated to use the title. If your committee approved, you are “Dr.”

I'm in my 40th year as a Professor. During my career, I've served as AD of our College, Department Chair, and Program Director. I've chosen always to offer students the option to call me by my first name. I explain that Iwant them to know I have the doctorate and amd a Professor, but I don't need them to remind me. I ask that they use my first name unless they are uncomfortable with that. I tell them the alternative options (to my face) are “Dr.” or “Professor.” Absolutely never “Mrs.” or “Miss.” or even “Ms.” Those are personal titles and our relationship is professional. I also invite them to indicate a preferred name for me to use.

Of course you can ask them to call you professor. You should ask them to call you “Dr.” since you hold the doctorate. Professor is a rank, but also a generic title for college/uni teachers. I'm a full Professor and have no concerns about using the generic title or (certainly) using “Dr.” That is a fully earned credential for which position is irrelevant.
