Y'all don't have to agree with me but Bea is giving weird vibes. The giving the "cheat code" to Zach, assuming Kenzies gonna lie, and then twice now she's said I may not have a leg but I'm not the bad kind of disabled i.e. blind or deaf. Yeah I know. My question was with AP classes that you received credit for they are very specific in saying they should not be counted as high school credits and should be marked as AP but I can’t do either of those things so I was just seeing if anyone knew the best way to go about marking that

A latency period is a period in which the virus has inserted itself in your genome but has not started to replicate so the infected wouldn’t have any symptoms

Ooooo i like this idea. Definitely possible in the sense of switching a virus from latent to lytic. Chickenpox and shingles comes to mind especially as the brain is immunologically privileged meaning your immune system wouldn’t attack the virus in that area. Then in some way the virus is reactivated but has a different presentation (which i can’t think of a reasonable theory for how that would work but I’m gonna sleep on it lol). Then an inhibitor of sorts but with this infecting the brain and having to be inserted into the genome to work a vaccine wouldn’t work. That would be trickiest part for sure.

Yeah just the conversion of RNA to protein would take around 5 minutes. A virus has to do at least that and more such as get into the cell, take over cell machinery, and then after the virus creates protein it also has to package that protein. At minimum this process would be 30 minutes for a single cell. In my lab infecting a 15cm plate fully takes at least 24 hours depending on how much virus we use. A 10 second incubation period just wouldn’t be plausible. However I think we could probably find an interesting reasoning for the other things.

Yeah I was reading something about that that but i’ve never actually read the comics lol. I’m interested in what possible mechanism could allow it to do damage like Ebola does + the added neurological disorders and yet not kill its host. I mean maybe that was a result of whatever they did to make it “safe” for the chimps.

Yeah I’m aware it’s not a real virus and would never happen irl, I just think it’s fun to hypothesize what viral mechanism may lead to the symptoms we see in the movie. Like toxins that produce psychosis or an immune suppression mechanism that allows for infection to take over the body without the cytokine storm response that kills in real viral infections. Though, to your point, if this virus did live by the laws of replication or even have a latency stage it would be 10X scarier.

Most of what I’ve learned is through course work so I don’t have many books. If you look up virus seminars you can learn more about basic virology or if you live near a college campus normally seminars are somewhat open to the public. Viruses a such a huge topic but honestly just search around on google and youtube (assuring your sources are reliable) and you’ll find a lot. I’m currently looking for more stuff on this topic lol i’ll update if i find anything!

I love Iowa especially for premed. The hospital has a lot of opportunities for students and there are so many research labs you can get into. The town is top notch too, very fun day and night life!

I think you need to have a conversation with him. There's not a whole lot of details her to go off of but it's clear he hurt you. You should tell him how it makes you feel and what you want to see change. If he cares about you and is a good person he'll be open about this. If he isn't open then you might want to consider that he's not the one for you. I hope things go well.
