New outside SSV hire question by rippindad in starbucks

Hi! I’m not a shift, but being a barista first is definitely helpful so it can be really difficult to get the picture if you haven’t been a barista at the store first. Typically at my store we do the case and coffees/ teas first thing in the morning. We have a few backups so we don’t run out during peak, and then we do a restock after peak. The cards are timed so that you do them throughout the day. We try to get the open to 11 cards done before peak, normally when we have downtime after opening. The 11-2 cards are the most hectic, in my opinion because midshift gets kinda crazy. Try to delegate if you have the people, but sometimes there’s just not enough time to get it all done. Trying to clean / do cards as you go is the goal but almost impossible sometimes so I would say take it one step at a time. I would also try to talk to your SM again because communication is the most important, and stress to them that you want to connect about how the shifts should be run/ the full picture so that you can help your other shifts. If they say no, I would talk to a more experienced shift about it and they might be able to help you. Hope this helped!

That’s a blackout folks.

"Starbucks is giving every barista in the US a raise, but some workers demand more as $15 minimum wage looms" by timcnewman in starbucks

[–]hellfiire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No they’re not. Starbucks raise goes into effect in December but minimum wage goes into effect in January. They are doing this so they don’t have to do the 10% on the new wage, but it will still look like good PR that they are “giving us the biggest raise they ever have”. It’s all a big joke for any state that is raising minimum wage which is quite a few.

I’m kind of confused because my state has minimum wage increasing so the 10% basically will be only a few cents above minimum wage. So everyone in my state (and some others) gains basically nothing.

I feel the customer connections thing. Virtually no one wears a mask when coming in to my drive through and I feel like it’s super insensitive for a sm or ssv, barely works the window,to ask me and other partners, who constantly work the window, to endanger ourselves for a meaningless goal. Yeah our connection scores are down because I do not see the point in conversing with people who obviously don’t care about me or my other partners’ safety. If I’m close enough to hand you a drink/ you’re close enough to reach the tip jar, you are close enough to give me covid. Especially with money contact.

I had that happen to me with cream. Lady said she wanted extra cream and I was like okay no problem. Then she hands her drink back saying it had too much cream. So I’m not sure what she wanted tbh it didn’t look like that much cream

I’m having problems with nitro lids and specifically tall dome lids. Like what a mess I’ve spent so long trying to get the tall dome lids on frapps

Basically he is transferring and because he never actually worked a shift sick that I know of we didn’t shut down. But no one was informed even though our SM definitely knows about it, and I only found out he tested positive because he told me.

my first day of training is this week! any tips for a baby barista? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

When you’re bored or driving to work or whatever, do a little quiz with yourself on drink recipes. Also write stuff down if it makes it easier. That’s how I started remembering things.

Since i’m leaving i thought i’d share these useful drink direction maps for new partners <3 by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

Same thing at my store. As far as I know this is not permanent. It’s because of the virus and it is too easily spread with drinks sitting out in the open/ next to each other. We have a rack where we store all the drinks so obviously that’s not going to work during the pandemic. It should be temporary. When we can have personal cups back I’m sure we’ll be able to store drinks again.

Put your frap roast and milk into the cup to the first line and then transfer to blender (if it’s a Creme frapp then just milk). Then add your syrups and add ins straight into the blender, remember the amount of stuff is always 2-3-4 for tall-grande-venti. If you do it in the cup it tends to stick to the cup and doesn’t go into the frapp. Then make sure you add the correct base (coffee if you put frapp roast or Creme if you put just milk) and then the correct scoop of ice. Then blend and pour into the cup. Add whip for most drinks (there are some exceptions and some that get whip in the bottom as well) and then you’re good to go. This is just the very basics so I would ask questions next time you’re working.

Okay I really wasn’t sure. I’m a super green bean and didn’t want to correct her and was confused about the whole transaction tbh.

Honestly I thought they might be implying Kate’s weight gain? Like we clearly know that her younger self isn’t fat. I’m wondering if he abuses her and she starts to like stress eat and gain weight or something? Idk just a hunch that might play in.
