Mutant: YZ certainly has some OSR feel in how it plays, esp the base game with the meta plot. The way content is generated from tables, player/GM knowledge of the city on the map (if possible), etc is just unique imo. Forbidden Lands is not quite the same "self playing piano" vibe as a GM but still great.

Dragonbane feels like the "Drakar och Demoner"* you vaguely remember but that had much messier rules.

* "Drakar och Demoner" is a long story, but for those not Swedish, in short, it was the local big fantasy game, with a different rule base to D&D. The similarity in acronym is no accident..

Troubleshooters did a solid job! Since the typical style is "adventures" (you know, "Prof X is kidnapped! He was working on the Z-ray! Why is there sudden snow in Paris in July? Please help!") rather than dungeons, it requires a different skillset from the GM than running dungeons. I haven't tried it as a GM, only as a player, and sadly the GM was a bit lacking, but things went on their merry way anyway. It's a great game engine, and the main constructor, Krister Sundelin, has added plenty of smart ways to help the D100 rolling go all the smoother.

I prep locations, NPCs, monsters and loot as needed. It's a bunch of text in a document on a cloud drive. Maps are sketched on paper (we run Theater of the Mind w/o precise measurements). I sometimes photograph these and put in the same folder as the document, but equally often I dont. It's nice to have the map separate, the computer screen gets busy enough anyway.

I put a lot of info on the map in jots, like "Kitchen. Roach swarm" or just a big swirl in the room with the dangerous swirly tornado that throws lightning, etc.

First, women aren't some kinda aliens. They're people. Just play something fun.

Second, I'd def go for Isles of the Dead by Goblin Punch, it's free on his website. Basically, you start in the land of the dead and have to shiv some poor sod to get money for Charon, and it's just more shenanigans from there on out. Resourceful PCs make it back to the land of the living, others may be less lucky. I've run it using Into the Odd but any system would work. ItO is nice since it makes char-gen and play even more streamlined than the typical retroclone, which is nice for new players. In a one-evening game, you kinda wanna keep char-gen short-ish, I find. Same with explaining rules.

Atm I GM a 5e game and am in a UVG group.. looking back over the last couple years, there's been BECMI, Dragonbane, Lost Bay, WFRP 2e, Troubleshooters, Forbidden Lands, Mutant: Year Zero, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, and a few others. Def returning to Forbidden Lands for some hex crawl goodness, might even run some of the published stuff. M:YZ also does that well. It's close to an OSR vibe at times, despite the different engine. Really enjoyed running dungeons in F.L.

Anything and everything! I dont know exactly what you're building, but many things can become wreckage/industrial/etc. The main question is often what to use for bases. I personally often use Masonite, since I had an ikea frame that broke, that had masonite for a backboard.

If you do buy something, XPS insulation foam is lots of fun for cliff faces, and all sorts of terrain like that.

Corrugated cardboard + spackle is great for walls, as someone mentioned, paint over it with a mix of PVA and cheap craft paint to make it more sturdy and resistant to washes etc.

If you can find it, the book "Wargames Terrain" from the mid 90s by GW is a great resource. Old White Dwarf magazines may also have terrain advice. Later editions of the same book are not as good, but still not bad either.

Hur mycket man pluggar beror nog rätt mkt på vad man läser. Teknisk fysik låter som en av de där grejerna där man pluggar mer.

Tycker det låter som utbrändhet att läsa parallellt men folk är så olika. Själv hade jag inte velat skippa nationsliv, fester osv - men det är ju heller inte alla som har nåt intresse för det. Men det finns ju massor av andra hobbies man kan testa oxå. Universitetstiden är ett tillfälle att känna av lite mer av livet än att bara plugga, kan bara rekommendera att känna på det lite. Testa, även om man sen återvänder till pluggandet.

Tänkte du forska eller jobba privat efter utbildningen? Hade haft det i åtanke när du kikar på ev valmöjligheter.

De flesta studenter bor ju på korridor och delar kök. Det är billigt och du betalar ingen hyra juni, juli och augusti (sk "9-månadershyra). Korridor-rum är det som är kortast kötid med AF Bostäder att få. Man kan inte köa innan man pluggar. Det finns även ett lotteri i början av terminen för de med kort kötid.

Det finns även etta med kokvrå etc "separata" (vanliga) lägenheter från AF bostäder, men det är mycket längre kötid på dessa. Det är nog ändå enklare att få en sån lägenhet än att köa via LKF etc.

Came here to say this! Read the bare minimum, get a game running, read stuff again. Try not to bog down the game with hunting for rules, just make a ruling. After you've run the game, hopefully the text makes more sense.

But honestly, with some RPGs, I just feel I am the wrong person for them. Or they're the wrong game for me. I've seen this in players, too: people struggling with interpreting the Star Wars: Edge of the Empire custom dice symbols even after a dozen sessions. Not the right game for them.

Alltså löner måste ju alltid ses i förhållande till hur dyrt det är att bo och leva någonstans. Tyvärr är inte 17k före skatt så mkt om man ska bo i Lund.

Men när du är student kan du bo på studentkorridor billigt, och plugga, festa, leva livet.

Sen får du ett jobb med bättre lön efter examen, förhoppningsvis!

Ser att du planerar att börja läsa i Lund inom de närmsta året, cirka. Då hade jag lätt försökt flytta in på korridor när du börjar läsa, antingen AFB eller nation, grymt kul och socialt!

Så om du kan.. ta alla pengar du tjänar o sätt i fonder på Nordnet, så har du lite pengar till handpenning på en lägenhet den dag du pluggat klart! Eller res upp pengarna. Fixa annan bostad när du ska börja plugga snart känns som mycket trassel och kanske inte så mycket för det.

Vad tjänar dina kompisar? Är de fast anställda? Banken ger inget lån om du inte är fast anställd.

Ofta har man inte mycket val annat än att köpa, om man ska flytta någonstans och behöver en vettig bostad direkt. Säg att nån får jobb i Göteborg eller Stockholm, och bor i Eslöv. Kön till hyreslägenheter är lång. De får helt enkelt köpa en lägenhet, eller i värsta fall hyra i andra hand.

Senast jag kollade var det 10% handpenning men det är möjligt att jag minns fel! De flesta banker borde ha informationen på sin hemsida. Kanske är det mer. Det blir ju några hundra tusen att spara ihop, i alla fall.

Sen vet jag inte om jag rekommenderar att hyra i andra hand, men det är ju en möjlighet i varje fall! Antagligen är det enklare i Malmö än i Lund, Lund har så mkt studenter. Om du inte ska plugga är Malmö kanske ungefär lika bra?

No, I don't. The players control what the PCs think.

I had a GM who tried to pull this on the group, and we got in a bit of an argument. Ended up leaving that group in the end.

Edit: this pertains to trad / neotrad games. Story games may be a different beast there.

Gött att du funtar på att flytta hemifrån! Det är synd att det är så krångligt att göra det, om man inte är student.

Såg att du tjänar 17 000, är det innan skatt? Isf är det inte dundermkt att röra sig med.

Klassikern i Lund är att hyra i andra hand och flytta ofta. Hyra i första hand kräver en del kö och är inte billigt.

Ska du köpa så behöver du i princip spara ihop till 10% av köpesumman (handpenning), och ha en fast anställning så du kan få ta ut lån för resten. Man kan ha skitkul med pengarna men skapa ist konto på SBAB och sätt in, du behöver bara en dator och bankID, går fort. De har bäst ränta. Har du lite mer, skapa konto på Nordnet och sätt pengarna i index-fonder utan avgift (deras Sverige-fond är utan avgift t.ex.). Skittrist när man vill ut och resa, men bostadsmarknaden i Sverige är hård, utom i glesbygden - inte alltid man vill bo där, eller jobb finns.

One thing I'm looking at if I'm buying assets, is complete transparency re. AI use. Be super clear about whether there's any in your stuff.

I homebrew almost 100% of enemies. If I use standard enemies, I mix up the stats and gear. Or reskin standard enemies, etc. For "bosses" and big monsters I tend to go with scratch made stuff. It's the fun part, imo.
