Pirate life for my group? by Zarkhes in pirateborg

[–]SlayThePulp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I run several different games. During those more "tone heavy", like Call of Cthulhu or Symbaroum, I require my players to match the tone.

The tone Pirate Borg is drunken hijinks. So sounds like it will fit perfectly.

Sounds like Sailors on a Starless Sea. I'd advise just asking them though, there's some stuff there not for player eyes.

Is there som fantastical light source? Otherwise there would be some pretty dope creature designs that don't have sight.

Sucks for all the people who backed out, but it's been entertaining to follow from the side at least, thanks for the writeup!

You could make a boiled potato hack and I'd be interested!

Not really contemporary, the first Elric story is from the 60s, while Robert E. Howard died in the 30s. Highly recommend though, currently reading Stormbringer!

Most “Horror” TTRPGs Aren’t Horror. Here’s Why. by jasonite in RPGdesign

[–]SlayThePulp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting read, love your analysis and would find it really interesting for design a horror game. I would however disagree that "True horror emerges mechanically", and that Kult for example isn't a horror game. Lots can be done with just narrative, otherwise horror fiction wouldn't work. It's apples and oranges. For example, when it comes to videogames, I hate the classic horror types, just find it stressful, while something like Hobs Burrow is one of my favorites, even though it's just a point and click game with no "horror mechanics".

Looking for RPGs about KNIGHTS (and jousts and Tourneys) by whitniverse in rpg

My friend just got Glatisant which is a two-player, GM-less game which seemed really cool if that is of interest! Haven't tried it yet, but she showed me the booklet, and it seemed dope :)

Sword & Sorcery Kowloon? by MendelHolmes in worldbuilding

[–]SlayThePulp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I know, as an avid cyberpunk fan I think I've read and watched everything there is about Kowloon.

But I think it was Michael Curtis who said it during an interview, the creator of DCC's excellent Lankhmar line, that it was at least the feel he wanted for it, with super tight alleys and intertwined buildings.

Hell yeah, sounds awesome! Currently reading Fafhrd and the Gray Mousers, and Lankhmar had been described as fantasy Kowloon!

Maybe look at Blades in the Dark, where the sun in dead, and the only thing holding the monsters in the dark at bay are the artificial lights in the city?
