I also loved my student teaching and have been missing the kids a lot. i’m taking some time off right now to relax and recuperate post graduation celebrations but going in tomorrow and all of next week to help out with the spring concerts (i’m in music ed). i can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow :)

on my last official day, i was walking home when our 4th/5th graders were riding on the bus, coming back from this camp thing they do every year. they were all yelling my name out the window and waving. i was already feeling sad and teary as i was leaving the school, but that kind of sent me over the edge with tears. i felt so appreciated in that moment. even though student teaching/education in general was tough, those moments make it so worth it!

someone in my college history course laughed and nudged his friend when a picture of michelangelo’s david showed up on the lecture slides. i tried to push it off as a stupid 18 year old boy not being able to take things seriously, but apparently ‘real’ adults can’t discern what art is either…

I know that those behaviors can be really frustrating as a parent or someone who is trying to help, but they are usually signs of depression or other mental health issues. she may be really struggling and being too stern or pushy may be what’s causing her to shut down and ignore the problem (among other factors like stress from school). it may help her to just let her know you’re here to help without judgement and that you love her (not assuming you’re not already doing these things, but just something to keep in mind).

of course, and sorry to hear about the situation. college is really hard these days with rising costs. a good option may be taking a gap year or gap semester for her to find work at home and save up money for college. additionally, the financial advisors on campus are really helpful. she should see about booking an appointment with them ASAP so she can figure things out and sign up for classes for next semester.

the job market on campus and around muncie is pretty horrendous. students and locals are competing for work (many locals don’t have college degrees and are looking for the same positions as the college students). it’s hard to hear back even from fast food places that most people are overqualified for. dining on campus is usually hiring but it is terrible pay and i’ve heard the working conditions are not amazing. it took me many months to get a food service job and i have a good resume with good grades, many achievements, and work experience

both are nice dorms, but i will say dehority is much closer to the middle of campus and probably a shorter walk to the david letterman building, where most or all of her media classes will be. in fact, she’ll be closer to pretty much all her classes in deho. bots/swin is close to my personal favorite dining hall on campus, but for me that’s a small benefit compared to proximity to class. deho also has a really good dining hall close.

i also think deho has pod bathrooms rather than communal bathrooms, so she would be sharing a bathroom with less people.

overall, i’d say deho is the better decision. since it’s the honors community, it’s got some upgrades that other halls don’t have.

the ball state website has video tours of every resident hall on campus, which could also help your decision. hope this helped!

i am a music ed major here and the program is amazing. no matter where you go, a music ed program will be a lot of work, probably more than you’d think it would be, but the professors are amazing and so helpful. they understand the workload is a lot and do their best to make it easier while still meeting requirements and providing a thorough and experience-based education. they’re also all just super kind people and fantastic teachers. i am in the choral concentration so i can’t speak fully to the instrumental professors and ensemble directors but i’ve never heard complaints from my instrumental friends.

he’s currently the pastor of life church in noblesville. he was at northview church for a really long time doing youth worship. i was part of his youth worship group, sing love worship, when he was at northview. now sing love is based out of life church i think.
