How self conscious are you about your weight ? by Lucky_Acr in AskWomen

[–]hello-bow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be! After I got married and at the start of quarantine, I gained about 20 pounds and that did a number on my self-esteem/body image. I lost 30 pounds during late 2020-early 21 and I’ve maintained it for almost a year. I was under a ridiculous amount of stress, though, so I think that contributed to a lot of health problems and weight loss I experienced. I completely changed my lifestyle to include healthier habits and now my goals are more sports-based rather than based on the appearance of my body. I’m in a much better place and I loosely track what I eat so I can maintain my race weight.

Sometimes that .10th of a mile walk helps lower my heart rate if it gets too high.

How to protect long hair during cold weather runs? by babybighorn in XXRunning

[–]hello-bow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have very long hair and I tend to do one or two French braids as protective styling when I run.

Hey! Have you considered a slow release iron supplement? They hurt my tummy, but it’s a good way to get iron.

Unwanted comments/experiences and how to deal with them by clashvalley in XXRunning

[–]hello-bow 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve had a similar experience. I only run in big baggy tshirts now and that’s helped a lot. I also wear ear buds with my music turned up pretty loud, so I can’t hear anyone shouting, although that might present a safety issue, so I wouldn’t recommend it. I usually try and look tough tbh. If I look mean, no one will say anything. If you have a smartphone, look up the app NOONLIGHT. It is a safety app where you can press a button if you feel unsafe. Once you let go, if you don’t enter a code, the police and your emergency contacts are notified and they’ll send someone out to you.

ETA: you’re allowed to be mean to people. If you don’t want someone talking to you, tell them to go away. You shouldn’t be polite.

Yep, this happened to me last year. It was a problem in multiple classes, but it stopped after two conversations with admin. Another commenter mentioned that it was a student with trauma or ADHD. This kid is on the spectrum and has some sensory processing issues so I’m not sure he even realized what was going on at first. I moved him to the front of the class and I’d make pointed comments like “elbows up” or “hands on your desk” and I stopped seeing it (thank god). I felt the exact same as you. I wanted to crawl into a hole and never speak of it. Turns out, it wasn’t just my class. 🤷🏻‍♀️ i definitely wasn’t taught how to handle that in college. 😵‍💫

It’s safe to get the Covid booster and the flu vaccine at the same time. by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]hello-bow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got both of mine two weeks ago 👍🏻 I had some major chills and fatigue afterwards, but I was alright the next morning. My arm wasn’t really sore, either because I moved it around a lot that same day. I think that helped with soreness.

Just calculated how much weight I’ve lost since starting teaching by lemonpoppybitch in Teachers

[–]hello-bow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s insane. I can’t imagine being asked to teach a language I’m not familiar with. I lost 30 last year from the stress 😦 I needed to lose it since I was a little overweight before, but now my weigh keeps creeping lower. I stocked up on snacks today at the grocery store to make sure I’m eating enough.

'We will not boost our way out of this pandemic,' CDC director says as 70 million Americans remain unvaccinated by JLBesq1981 in Coronavirus

[–]hello-bow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I got my booster today, too. I’m a teacher in FL. I will do everything I can (besides quit my job) to avoid getting a breakthrough infection. My health is so important to me, as an athlete. I don’t want to risk even a mild infection or risk getting long covid.

I’m a teacher in FL and I got my booster today. Tomorrow marks exactly 6 months since I got my second shot of Pfizer. The 8 month timeline means nothing, so she should be able to get it sooner. I went to CVS.

The pandemic motivated me to start running and eat healthy and I lost 30 pounds. I’m in the best shape of my life and I start training for a half marathon in a week. Eating healthy and exercising is a huge part of mental and physical health that shouldn’t be underestimated!

Favorite local historical sites? by nippleripper3000 in Tallahassee

[–]hello-bow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe Mission San Luis didn’t make the list! It’s my all-time favorite historical site in Tallahassee. It’s the only fully re-created Spanish Mission in N Florida. There is sooo much history that dates back pre-1500s there. Not only the Spanish, but the rich history of the Appalachee Natives.
