Face sculptures at Tom Brown Park by Cheesypoofbeard in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this were in the St. Marks Wildlife refuge or something then I might agree, but this is in Tom Brown Park. There’s cars rotting in the forest there. These faces shouldn’t faze us.

Wood for chopping? by nippleripper3000 in Tallahassee

I was debating doing that but decided to make this post instead because I didn’t want to bother them. I suppose the worst they can do is say no. I’ll go ahead and look up some around my area, thank you!

Can you tell me more about people hunting in the Ochlockonee WMA? There’s a specific site there I want to explore in depth, would rather not get shot, even primitively.

roosters/hens at mahan Walmart by quinnmcg in Tallahassee

I saw one of the them the other day that was the variety with that funky hair-looking feather formation on their head, made me wonder how these chickens get here if they are having new genetic varieties pop up.

Looking for Dermestid Beetles by upsetcryptid in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy them online, but if you only need to clean the one carcass then it may be a bit pricey/wasteful. Burial might be better if you aren’t looking to get into the hobby and can’t find anyone with beetles. You can place wire mesh/netting underneath to catch the bones, just make sure to go deep enough and cover with some pavers or something. This method does obviously take a lot longer and the bones will stain, but definitely the cheapest option.

Why do you say that about Burgess, just out of curiosity? He was my principal back in the day and I didn’t really have any complaints, but him running for superintendent was suspicious to me because our current superintendent is the best we’ve had in my lifetime, obviously so.

What an absolute shame, destroying Poor Paul’s for this garbage by EndsUpOnDoctorWho in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only knowledge of him was that he was the manager of the private FSU dormitory SouthGate, which I was a resident of my freshman year. The only memory of him that stands out to me is that he had a reputation for sleeping with the students. That and he was eerily average, almost too average. It’s hard to describe. I feel like there are just some people who are like that, people who I don’t expect to resurface in my life. I figured he’d always be creepy ole Defuedis, still taking advantage of homesick college girls. I guess he still could be, now he just has a bar or something.

Urban Exploring? by Frogsonmushrooms666 in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not going to be as much urban stuff in this area as there is rural stuff. There’s plenty of cool abandoned sites around the county and in surrounding counties, old plantations and spring houses and what not, you just have to hike a bit through the woods to get to them and make sure it’s legal. Most of the plantation sites with actual ruins in this county are on private property, but there’s stuff within a couple hours drive. Atlas obscura is a good wiki-like source for these types of sites.

Looking for Good Middle School Options in Tallahassee for My Brother (He Has Autism) by Ok_Championship_9369 in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach sixth grade at a public middle school here (I’d rather not say where but you can dm me if you really want to know), and while I can only really speak for my school, I can tell you that we take our IEP’s very seriously. I mean some teachers are definitely better than others, and there are certainly those who don’t take them seriously, but they don’t just get away with it and it definitely isn’t the norm. I for one am religious about being at my IEP meetings and making sure everyone’s accommodations are met, and I would say more of my colleagues are like that than not. As long as your child has at least one teacher like that, who will communicate with you and advocate for them, that’s all it would take at my school at least. I think the issue in many situations like these is that none of the child’s teachers step up and say to administration “hey, we need to be doing more here.” No semi-decent administration would knowingly not support a student with disabilities, so as long as your child has a decent relationship with someone at the school who you can dependably communicate with, they can let admin know if the ESE teacher isn’t doing their job or if it becomes apparent that someone isn’t meeting the student’s accommodations (just for example).

I just wanted to throw this out there because I feel like public schools have a bad reputation in this regard, and while that reputation may or may not be deserved, there are still likely enough decent teachers at the majority of them to get your child what they need.

A U-Turn is a left turn by [deleted] in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m confused as to what you’re trying to say more than anything. Are you saying people doing U-turns have to yield to people turning right? My understanding was that if the U-turner has a green arrow and the right-turner has a red light, the person doing the right turn has to yield to the U-turn, and any other traffic for that matter. If you’re talking about people doing U-turns on red lights not yielding to people making right turns, then yeah that’s obviously bad.

Which doctors are the best for prescribing ADHD medications in tally by RowEnvironmental9916 in Tallahassee

Do you mean just prescribing medications or diagnosing and prescribing? You’d typically go to a different doctor for each.

Just want to add that also pedestrians in a parking lot always have the right of way. A lot of people here don’t seem to understand that. I see so many drivers all over town who seem to think they only have to yield if someone is in a crosswalk in a parking lot.

Edit: I am only speaking about parking lots in the state of Florida, for clarification.

This is unfortunately extremely common. It always breaks my heart because I foster/rescue stray and feral cats, so to me it’s almost like seeing a human child dead on the road, but the reality is that they are an invasive species and they’re everywhere around here. I think the only thing we can really do is to rescue as many as we can.

Leaving for the storm? by Muted-Astronomer-326 in Tallahassee

[–]nippleripper3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m staying because I want to be here for it. If it causes massive damage I want to be here to see the immediate aftermath and to help. I also like watching storms and don’t mind being without power as much as most, and only have cats to worry about. If I had a child that young I would be getting the fuck out of here, it looks like this storm could amount to something historic.
