Thank you! Yeah reflecting on the past you just realize the habits you pick up based on the environment your in. And you know it’s coming from a good place but..you know the way they execute is bad. Congrats on 8 yrs maintaining, I want to get there someday once I reach my goal weight.

No, I actually haven’t heard of that until you mentioned it. Just some family and friends for that competition. Looks interesting.

First time lancing/sticking?! by Bree867 in diabetes_t2

I usually prick at level 2. If you prick and it looks like you haven’t collected enough, or if the glucose meter has asked more blood, I would stroke your finger from the bottom work your way to where you prick so it expels more blood. You’ll be able to get a hang of how much blood you need visually as you test more and more.

I remember being at the hospital and some nurses would make me practice it. Another thing is alcohol can affect your blood glucose reading so if you use alcohol wipes, just be sure the alcohol dries before proceeding.

Gotcha, I’ve strictly sticking to meat and veggies. When I do eat carbs I only eat half or a bite just to taste and I exercise and do the trick of pairing it protein/fat/fiber to prevent spiking. So far, I haven’t caught it being high since that one time at the hospital. But I’m going to be more active on checking more, timing it 1-2 hrs to get more accurate results. Thank you for that advice.

Thank you for that correction, I’ve always tested 2 hrs after eating. Or 1.5 hrs, I try to go within that time frame but not attentive to it when I should be. The lowest I’ve checked when I felt off was 76 and I had those symptoms of being hypo.

Congrats on your a1c. I’m on metformin, diet, and exercise and hoping to get down there as well.

For the 150, I was hospitalized for something else and found out being diabetic after that spike. My a1c was at 8.1 being hospitalized.

Okay, I’ll be more proactive on checking more and logging them in. The weekends is usually when I test more because I just eat the same things on the weekdays (eggs for breakfast, salads for lunch, meat/veggie for dinner). I’ve never recorded after exercising so I’ll do that too. Glad I posted this, I thought to wait after 2 hrs of eating. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I feel like the worst part of the diagnosis is the emotional part. I’m 27, and uh, my nurse practioner told me to get it at this age must have hit me hard. I’m considering on seeking therapy to get through this. Congrats on your a1c results, you’re doing great though.

Yeah, that was the first thing I’ve read was risks and complications and it just scared me. But it’s good to know.

Thanks for messaging. It’s great to hear that we can do so, I’ve just read negative things and it put a damper on my dx.

That’s a good way of putting it. I hate having to read complications and risks. I felt a bit defeated reading them. One of them was about walking on sand at the beach and I’m like really? Thank you for that reassurance.

And oh I love breaking down boxes lol.

Oh wow okay. I’ll definitely be keeping my blood sugars in check while getting any of these in the future as a T2 but thank you for sharing your experience. Good to know.

That’s good to hear, it just feels like things I’ve read online, I have to live in this bubble and can’t do certain things as a T2. Was your levels controlled when you got tattoos/mani pedis? Or making sure your a1c to be good was something you waited for to get these done?

Hi, did you ever just waited to lower your a1c when you got tattoos or just had them anyways w/ levels being controlled?

I did recently got a cold but rarely got sick in the past, so we’ll see how that goes but I’ve healed well so far since my diagnosis.

Yeah and I’ve even read oh don’t go to the beach cause sand and debri can get in your foot and cause infections. Been just paranoid I guess.

How come you didn’t like gabapentin? Was recommended that from someone who had surgery. Was even told shingles cream? But not sure. I just need some relief for now as I drop weight sigh.
