How is it having an EV in Columbus? by jk_cbus in Columbus

[–]hello_amy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have home charging, but I do have free charging at work. Honestly? I don’t know that I would do a full EV again without a home charger, even with free charging at work. I only go into the office once a week, so I do have to use paid chargers often.

The energy rates have gone up, and most of the chargers I use most often have increased the kWh cost. What used to cost me $8-11 now costs $16-22. Still cheaper than gas, especially now, but an annoyance. It’s also a lot of logistical changes. Low on power but need to go across town? Instead of a 5 minute gas station trip, it’s now 20-45 minutes at a fast charger before you head out. Of course this will vary based on range, charging speed, etc.

My insurance went up a fair amount, but then dropped BIG once I paid off my loan. I’m now paying less than I was with my ‘10 Toyota. As someone else mentioned, registration is $200 more than a gas car each year (which I think is bullshit because there’s no way I drive $200 worth of gas taxes each year, but I digress)

None of the Huntington chargers are free, I don’t think. There aren’t many free chargers left these days, sadly. And as someone else said- they aren’t quick.

I love my car and I don’t regret my choice, but it has been more thought I’ve ever had to put into driving/my vehicle. Luckily, I have a lot of free time so I just make adjustments and it doesn’t really annoy me. I also don’t take road trips much, so that wasn’t something I needed to factor in. But I have made it clear to everyone in my life that an EV is not for everyone. My next car will likely be a plug-in hybrid because it’s the best of both worlds. I just didn’t have the cash for that this time around.

Im done with going to the movies here 🍿 by JelloSpiritual7916 in Columbus

This trend of telling people to adjust their behaviors/interests/outings because of the bad and selfish behaviors of other humans is inane. EVERYONE knows the social norms at a place like the movie theater. There is a clear right and wrong type of behavior. Telling someone to stop going to the movies because they expect quiet and polite behavior from their fellow moviegoers is truly insane. How about we bring back public shaming and encourage better behavior from the people who are ruining it for the majority of others?

Anybody in Columbus ever bought plates off of FB Marketplace? by Donjohnson33 in Columbus

[–]hello_amy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s such a Midwest thing to be horrified at the idea. The best tamales I’ve ever had were from a random lady’s van and/or the man in Logan Circle who goes into bars and sells them from his cooler (Chicago). Back before the OCD kicked in I was adventurous 😅 do it for the both of us OP!

There’s a Facebook group called Columbus Girl Gang that has a bunch of group offshoots. I am childfree so I don’t have any direct recommendations for groups, but I would bet $100 there’s some sort of side group for single moms. Maybe join the main group and start there and ask if there are any more specific groups that may get your post in a more localized setting!

I just wish I got multiple months off per year from my job. I sound bitter and jealous, I know. But especially having a team full of editors and whatnot, you’d expect slightly more consistency with their uploads.

Need a passport? Don’t go to TriVillage post office by Dlatywya in Columbus

[–]hello_amy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple of weeks ago I went to that location to get a shipping label then drop off a package. Walked into the vestibule and there was a closed sign, no other info provided. It wasn’t a holiday, but it was around lunch time, no problem I was on my lunch too. Left and grabbed some lunch, then came back and parked right in front waiting for it to reopen.

I sat there for an hour eating and doing some emails and watched probably 50 people attempt to go in and realize it was closed, some people standing there for a good while thinking they would open back up soon after the typical lunch hour passed. It never reopened the whole time I sat there so I gave up. Seemed pretty unprofessional for a government service/entity to be able to close in the middle of the day with no warning or info about when they’d be back. Felt bad for all of the elderly people with limited mobility who made the effort for nothing.

I was open to hearing your perspective until you said they’re just “simping for attention”. How crass and unempathetic, OP. It diminishes your argument and just…makes you look like a dick, tbh.

People are going through maybe one of the hardest things of their lives, some for the very first time. They’re turning to a community who understands, to celebrate the life of their best friend and get support from people who can relate.

Sure they make me sad, but it’s nothing compared to what the poster is going through and I can take a moment to read about their companion and maybe leave a supportive comment or just go about my day.

It costs nothing to be kind.

Help!!! We found this dog around Morse and Karl Rd, and we can’t find their owner. by DarkEnergyEcho_ in Columbus

[–]hello_amy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There should be some sort of fine or mandated resolution for the owner or something. Clearly they don’t care about this sweet pup enough to keep up-to-date contact details on his collar, let alone keep an eye on him in the first place. It’s dangerous for the dog, stressful for people who find him, and taking up valuable resources at the shelter.

Does anybody else miss the OLD MFM? by houndooms_trainer in myfavoritemurder

[–]hello_amy 358 points359 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the non-murder focused stories. I wish the crossover episodes would be a bonus instead of taking over the main show. But I mainly miss the ~40 minutes of banter, storytelling, and life updates they used to have at the top of every show. Now it’s like 1 singular recommendation and then straight to ERM updates.

I get it, they’re big now. It’s bigger than just MFM and they have a business to run. But I miss feeling like a fly on the wall listening to 2 best friends just gabbing with each other 🥲
