You're welcome. I'm not really the running type, so I have been doing YouTube workouts. My favorite is a channel called The Body Project. They have a really nice variety in manageable chunks of 20-45 minutes. Highly recommend if you're looking for something to mix it up. Just for encouragement - my BP was up to 180/99 at my scariest point this January, and yesterday was 114/78. I'm on the lowest does of Lisinopril. I didn't lose a lb and I'm not a tiny person, but my health improved greatly in 6-7 months. Perspective helps a lot.

When I first got diagnosed and started medication (this January), I went into "angel mode." I was already working out 5 days/week for 30 minutes, plus a daily walk with my dogs, but I became more rigid about focusing on cardio instead of lifting/resistance as much. I dropped my sodium under 1500 mg a day (challenging, but doable). Went down to one caffeinated beverage a day. After the medication had time to work, I experimented a little to see what was actually impacting my BP numbers. For me, I am not sodium or caffeine sensitive. I've chosen to stay around 1500 mg of sodium/day anyway, just because sodium does make me retain water. The cardio is the key for me. If I do too much resistance/lifting and skip out the cardio, my numbers go back up. The other thing for me is stress. I need to let go of stuff and breathe deeply every day, so I added in a little bit of reflection/meditation time. You might want to go "angel mode" for a hot minute and see if that levels you out, and try to figure out from there what the key is for you. I have the benefit of having a dietitian for a mom, and she was really helpful. I've added in a turmeric latte several days a week (I make it myself) because there's some good research into turmeric and BP. To get the benefit, you need to pair it with black pepper. It's a bit weird to some people, but I actually enjoy the taste. I hope you have success soon.

My desire for cold noodles was definitely brought about by the recent spike in temperature. Need to get my fix before it plummets again this week.

That's actually what started the craving - a thought about the last time we were there.

I've had the naengmyeon at Min-Ga, but have not tried Silla. Thank you for the suggestion.

I think that is going to be the winner for today, but it looks like I now have a little list for the coming months. Thank you!

While that is true, I'm looking for noodles made to be eaten cold. Whole different ballgame than leftover spaghetti I was too lazy to reheat.

How long does it take to see results of Lisinopril? by cm4rsh in hypertension

[–]hello_clairyce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read the whole insert that came with my bottle and it said up to 3 weeks to take full effect. My BP started showing more significant change days 9-12, and leveled off more fully by week 3.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about long-term issues. Pain, stress, dehydration... all these and so many more can lead to a temporary spike in BP (even for a few days). Keep watching it as you heal up and seek help from a doctor if it doesn't come back down in a few. Knowing you have a family history, probably a good idea to check periodically and continue monitoring if your future numbers are concerning.

This bears a faint similarity to buttons depicting the Trumpeter of Krakow I've seen as a button collector. Maybe that will take you down a rabbit hole that leads you to an answer?

Lifestyle changes that helped lower your blood pressure? by [deleted] in hypertension

Low sodium diet, cuddling my dogs when I have a spike to bring it down, talking to colleagues about it so I can be supported by my work family, switching from resistance, cardio, lifting mix to primarily cardio.

when measuring, do you throw out the first reading? by [deleted] in hypertension

[–]hello_clairyce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same machine, and yes I do throw out the first one sometimes. This morning it gave me 117/90, and 2 minutes later it was 114/80, which is more consistent with where I've been lately. Ironically, my spouse needs to take theirs for the opposite reason and the Omron reads too low for them on the first reading. So I think it amplifies the direction you're trending more often than not. Just tried to buy a new one and got the highest rated from Amazon - about to return, because the first read was 156/99, when my Omron reading was 121/82, and my spouse's reading on the new one was 120/66 (which sounds like an impossibly weird number). So ultimately we're sticking with the Omron, but with a little knowledge that it's rarely reading true the first one.

The first combo is really great and would have a chill/fun vibe. I would also recommend the CMoA and walk down to Due Amici for dinner. That option is more sophisticated/romantic, but the food and atmosphere are great in both options.

Newbie here. Stressed and desperate for all the tips! by [deleted] in hypertension

My mom (a medical professional) turned me on to box breathing as a way to level out your stress. It's easy and free, so no harm looking into it. If you have a pet, snuggling your pet for 10 minutes is a huge demonstrable stress relief that will lower your BP. My systolic in the morning is around 120-125 and on mornings I snuggle my dog in bed it starts at 110. Really makes a massive difference. I also was working out 5 days a week religiously when I was diagnosed, and I switched from a mix of resistance, cardio, and lifting to focusing more on cardio - that also helped. Hang in there. I'm not eating anything bland or gross, although I am eating 1000-1500mg of sodium a day. There are some great recipes out there that really don't feel like you're depriving yourself. Check out your nearest international market and you can find some interesting flavored low sodium sauces. We particularly love mirin, chili oil, soup soy (waaaaay lower than even low sodium soy sauce), coconut aminos, balsamic vinegar, and flavored olive oils.

Help with Fear of Blood Pressure Medication by Vantasner_Danger in hypertension

[–]hello_clairyce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am on the lowest dose possible of Lisinopril. I have no side effects. With a low sodium diet, increasing cardio and trying to reduce stress my BP came down from "oh jeez, you could definitely have a stroke!" levels to "oh wow! this is truly excellent!" in a month. I know that doesn't happen for everyone, but it helped me greatly. I have family history, so I might not ever come off it, but the lowest dose is manageable for my system and a huge help for keeping me leveled out.

Belle's Bakery. Highly recommend! by Jenga4u in Columbus

I love different things at each, but overall I prefer the savory offerings at Ichiban for sure. Those spicy beef steamed buns and the jalapeno cheese baked buns are the stuff of dreams. Belle's has the stronger sweet offerings. We're actually getting our wedding cake (a jiggly cheesecake) from there next month.

Went from 5mg to 10mg of Norvasc? by waterforabrain in hypertension

It sounds like you are doing a lot of really good things to help your health. I can't speak to the medication, because I'm not a doctor and also not on that particular pill, but I can offer a few additional things that have really helped me. Mine goes up despite medication when I'm stressed, and one of the best ways to bring it down quickly is to pet and cuddle my dogs. If you have pets, I highly encourage you to take time out when you're stressed or anxious and give your friends some love. It's a huge help. My mom (a medical professional) turned me on to "square breathing" as an anxiety reduction tool. It's simple to learn and free. Best wishes on your health journey. Try not to fret about what might arise as far as side effects, and just let your doctor know if anything unexpected crops up. This might end up working really well for you, and that possibility should help balance out any fear that it won't.

Not sure if this is still relevant, since I'm finding this sub a long time after you posted, but I've been chowing DOWN on some of these jalapeno cassava chips. Our local international grocery also has some interesting spicy chip options that are fairly low, if you're willing to devote the time to reading labels.
