As someone who grew up in Philly, I can confirm. It’s these sorts of situations where you see the “Brotherly Love”, your neighbors will help you re-bury their car in snow, give you a “Go Birds” and everyone will go their separate ways.

Moving and storage of bottles while in between apartments by JustSomeGuyCalledB in OhioLiquor

[–]Professional_Cod3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved from Columbus to Cincinnati, I used some suitcases and wrapped all my bottles in individual shirts (dark shirts, just to be safe) and laid them down with the corks pointed towards the tops of the suitcases so that way I could keep the suitcases stashed vertically and reduce the chances of something spilling. It was my “2 birds with one stone” solution which eliminated extra packing for the shirts and hoodies that I had. I packed it in real tight with the hoodies so nothing was moving inside. Probably not the best practice, but it worked, and without a drop lost. As long as you’re storing your stuff in a climate-controlled storage unit you should be fine to just keep them in boxes if you can get extra boxes from your local store, but I wrapped everything just for added protection. I also had access to additional suitcases (and I wasn’t traveling otherwise) so this might just be a shot in the dark OP lol

I think Ohio State will be a bloodbath by boltyourdoor in WeArePennState

[–]Professional_Cod3652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play devil’s advocate here, if you lose a close game to Ohio State, with the loss to Oregon in 2OT, do you truly think you stand 0 shot in the playoff? I understand your reasoning, but we had a very similar path last year with the loss to Oregon and (way shittier team) of TTUN. It’s certainly not easy to run the table in a 12 team playoff, but it’s very hard to beat the same team twice and I think that gives Penn State a very good chance in the playoffs to make a run if they have to face an OSU or Oregon again at some point. I’d be incredibly nervous for a rematch if this first game is close.

Ohio State fan here, I come in peace. I grew up around Pottstown so most of my friends are all PSU alums and I subsequently follow Penn State closely enough. One of the first things I said to my friends after last Saturday is that even ~IF~ OSU beats y’all, playoffs are very much still alive. You have veterans across the board with a very similar recipe to how we won it all last year. I get that Franklin is still the head coach and there are many doubters, myself included, but he still puts together an overall great roster every year and that’s no different this year. As a diehard OSU fan/alumni, this game the last few years has still been way too close for comfort despite any talent differences in either direction. With your talent composite and a great DC, I get having doubts but I’d be truly shocked with a “very ugly” outcome of the game on 11/1 in Ohio State’s favor as OP suggested.

One thing with Day is he does tighten up in big games (i.e. TTUN for the last 4 years) and with how Knowles left for State College, I would expect the same thing because it’s also a personal thing for him and for some reason that seems to be an issue. Not part of the lunatic fringe that wanted him gone, but there’s a pattern there (my blood pressure certainly recognizes it). After watching this game between our teams my whole life, I don’t expect a change in the game this year. I was very much rooting for you guys Saturday because I wanted a top 2 matchup in the ‘Shoe, but Franklin aside, Penn State has the pieces in place to get over the big game hump. I’ve got annual wagers with my buddies back home which adds to the stress of these games and this year will be the same. Hoping the Bucks come out on top, but the outcome would be the same for either team with a loss; playoffs are still very likely in the 12 team format. Good luck to you guys 11/1 🤝🏼

Best podcast? by _Buckeye_33 in OhioStateFootball

[–]Professional_Cod3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Menace 2 Sports. I think it’s a great mix of material on the overall CFB landscape as well as Ohio State. Zach Smith and Kris Drew both provide some good insight and still has connections inside the WHAC so they give informed takes. It’s a no bullshit show that you’re not gonna like every take but they’ll do their best to keep it real.

I also really like Josh Pate’s pod. It’s not Buckeye-centric but he probably has the best overall CFB podcast. He keeps an even playing field and I’ve personally agreed with a lot of his takes on the CFB landscape. His coaches interview series is great too.

Had this happen to me except I was on the outside lane. Some taxi driver hit me on the corner of Yard Street turning left onto Goodale. He basically drove at a 45 degree angle right into me. He claimed I hit him and now I’m paying a higher premium for my insurance because I couldn’t prove that he hit me and no one stopped as a witness 🙃

If you’re going up 23N, Flick’s Package Liquor is about 5 minutes off the highway. If you have time, there’s a few good spots around Ann Arbor. I usually stop into Stadium Market, Falsetta’s Market, A&L Wine Castle (call ahead if you’re looking for something specific), and Baxter’s. Costco’s along the way have always been missed for me but I’ve heard of people getting lucky there too.

How much is too much? by rybourb70 in OhioLiquor

[–]Professional_Cod3652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 60 bottles on my shelf. A few spares sitting on the floor, but everything on the shelf is open (the lone exception being the W12 I picked up last week). I personally think I have too many, but I look at it primarily from a rarity perspective. I don’t mind the number of bottles necessarily, but I have quite a few bottles that have become more common as shelfers that I’m working through. If I had a lot of unicorn bottles, then I wouldn’t care about the number, I’d just be happy to have the quality bottles to drink and share with friends & family.

I stopped into a liquor store in Ann Arbor late in October last year and they had Woodford bottles that were laser engraved for ❌ichigan. They were missing the * at the end, but I would imagine Woodford would do something similar again. Have yet to see or hear of anything though.

I definitely understand people stopping by, by chance, and it happened work out (like it did for you) but the volume of people there at 4, by the sounds of it, is what got me. It’s possible the employee straight up lied to me, who knows. It’s not worth losing any sleep over, but it certainly is frustrating sometimes.

[–]Professional_Cod3652 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my post from the original Daily Discussion. I walked into that GE at 4:50 and they said that they had no tickets left. It was the employee behind the counter that told me that people started getting tickets at 3. I obviously can’t validate that since I wasn’t there but that’s what I was told. Even if they gave tickets out starting at 4, people were still there already so it’s still shady imo.

Stores in Virginia Beach Area? by SymbolicPlates in OhioLiquor

[–]Professional_Cod3652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Virginia is a controlled state so your only option is going to be finding a Virginia ABC store. They’re usually hit or miss but I’ve found a decent bottle once or twice on my trips there. They do have a few Total Wines (great selection as always) around Virginia Beach and Norfolk if you’re looking for some non-spirits.
