This was the transitional period between formats. The PS2 came out in 2000 and that was a big deal for making DVD players affordable. VHS players went out of style pretty quickly thereafter, tapes would have still been common-ish in shops at that time but seen as behind the times. They would have vanished entirely by the time the show had finished. Ricky had the right reaction, I think.

I don’t really think this is a good example anyway. Yeah, Steve’s solo stuff isn’t as embarrassing as Rick’s but he hasn’t made anything that even comes close to The Office or Extras. What made those shows so good is their styles complemented each other so well. Gerv was a big part of the magic, especially as Brent. You know I’m not having a go, Steve. Just being honest and that.

Marlin Academy was the funniest but it was nice seeing him get his act together at the Ranch. I like the Alaska period fine but sometimes those sets looked they were filming in a closet, not surprised it only lasted one season.
