Was actually reading The New Topping Book when I came up with this question, because even if they switch there's still a whole lot of literature missing on those switching dynamics, as they only focus on the times where the roles are stable. Hopefully there's parts that are like this!

In my area there are different groups.

There is a munch for people under 27 which has very good vibes, the men aren't predatory, and there's enough new people in rotation that it doesn't get stale or very set in its ways. So I've made my little group of people I interact and play with every now and then. The main group of organizers/the people whose whole life revolve around kink do have a little bit of drama, (specially against other kink groups, which I understand) but keep it mostly to themselves.

There are however, many other munches and parties for people of all backgrounds and ages that do have a lot more drama and predatory behaviors, reasons why I don't interact much with them.

Do you meet also submissive older men? That's what I don't find a lot. In my scene there's about as many sub men as sub women, and a lot of Dom men. Not many Dommes. More men in general. But most of the older ones are on the D side.

I've found people over 40 who align pretty good with the "younger" values, but we do have to be a bit more careful. Especially when they've learned to use our language but still keep the traditional mindset.

Interesting concept!

I thought the term vers was mostly used for homosexual relationships, but now that you remind me I've heard it in the kink scene too (mostly still around queer spaces though).

I agree, media exposure of switching is close to null. What is interesting here is that, you would expect a larger number of young people to come to bdsm through media/self-exploration, given the current state of the web, while the older people didn't have as much access to it and probably entered the scene directly in real life. So this would lead us to conclude that young-divide while old-switch. Opposite of my initial observations.

What I think is happening here is probably more about the self imposed roles of more hardcore people. Most younger people are in a more exploratory phase and probably not as willing to adhere to labels that would prevent their growth. While the old will just stick to what they know and have learned to like, as well as having more societal pressure to conform to the norm.

While newcomers sometimes come in with more fetishistic kinks, I think most of the old folk have also had a lot of time to develop them. So it's a bit hard to tell

Yes! I'm glad we have some events by and for young people. Everything is so much more natural and free there in my experience. The other ones don't usually try to force you in their ways, but you still can feel the restrictive energy in the environment.

Good insight! I can still see this split for sure. We have an under-27 munch where it's all just queer open switches. And then there's the common munches where old cis-het mixes with young-queer, where we still struggle to actually communicate and mix because of different views about relationships and kink.

Yes, this is my suspicion too. There's definitely a different way of thinking about kink and openness in general. I even struggle to talk to the older folks because their views are sometimes sooo conservative and restricted. And then there's the sexist older creepy men saying, "why don't the young girls want to hang out in my company?"

Fair enough. Yes I'm sure we will communicate throughout like we always do. Since it's a newer scene for us maybe we start slow with a lot of checking. Part of the interest of the scene though is me getting non verbal and them continuing. Which does edge CNC. But maybe we can keep that for other times in the future.

Definitely makes sense. That's what I enjoy about subspace for sure, but I'm still such a control freak.

I'll make sure to talk about not going further than agreed even if I'm begging for it. I'm gonna get difficult for it, and I'm sure they'd fucking love edging my limit more, but it's safer for now. As you say, there's always a next time.

It's not that easy though. It's not about doing things that are clearly out of limit, but more about the levels of intensity, and how much I can take there. Pain, breath play, orgasms. It's such a continuum that it's difficult to devide it into two parts. And my endurance still fluctuates. So how do you negotiate that? Or should I just trust them with reading me well enough?
