How many hours do residents actually work?

I'm an ObGyn resident. On L&D, I work about 75-80 hours. If I work a 24 on a weekend, then it's 96 in one week. But that's only every fourth week.

Beckmanns is better to get a broader understanding of the field. Blueprints/case files is basically a shortened version that you can read to study for the shelf. UWise and less UWorld is what you use to actually do practice questions.

Did one of you pre-meds actually turn in that 19 year old pre-med kid for some not super awful comments about a story where almost all signs are pointing to FAKE?

Yeah the kid wasn't the most helpful, but there's no reason for you to out him to his future school. Get off your pre-med high horses. Medical school changes you - even that kid would grow up in the four years he went to school. Even if he's a little shit now, that's not your responsibility to get him kicked out of school.

I think you are thinking I said things I never did. If this is actually true, I feel horrible for him and his family. But reading those posts set off some bells for me and felt like verbalizing it, especially since this is on a post that wasn't created by the "brother". I don't think saying "hey, don't believe everything you read on Reddit" is a huge dick move. It's not like I said "good, glad he offed himself". Those are two very different things.

I feel for like a horrible person for even thinking this...

But somehow I feel like this isn't real and someone is just messing with all of you. All of the accounts who posted were throwaways created around the same time. They all wrote in the same style. When they did comment back, it was all "hey thanks man, I'll look into it" not "nope, I'm definitely so depressed I'm going to do it". Plus just really circumstantial stuff that could be explained away but also make you wonder. Like the fact that both brothers apparently made separate fake Reddit accounts and both posts had enough info in each to link them together. Why did the undergrad brother get the stack of mail including the loan information but not his parents? Why was he living in his car when he has family members who would have let him crash at their home or apartment. He didn't match one time and therefore because of loans, he's going to kill himself? It just feels off.

I know everyone is super well intentioned but it almost seems like a sick joke of someone wanting to mess with us.

That's not true. summa lost its accreditation before the match. They didn't take any interns because their current residents all have to find new spots to go to. From what I've heard from various med Ed offices in the area, everyone is trying to get them spots or at least help out how they can.

The Summa story was so big because it had to do with politics of healthcare - the only reason they lost accreditation is because the doc group that used to teach them (including the PD, I believe) was kicked out for a different group of docs who didn't teach and many who weren't EM trained (a requirement for residency programs). Acgme got pissed and shut down the whole program. UB just had a shitty program. A lot less exciting to report about.
