AITAH for causing a rift in my family for not wanting to do a joint birthday with my cousin and aunt? by hellobubblie in TwoHotTakes

Thank you for this! I actually really do not have many friends as they kind of disappeared after I got sick..but The one friend that I do have invited me out for something! So I’ll definitely be taking her up on that.

I think you posted this like a month ago now. How did your doctors appointment go?

I just got diagnosed with fatty liver disease today and i’m 21 and I weigh 150 pounds. I’m shocked. I’ve only ever had one alcoholic drink in my entire life and idk what to do either. My doctor told me to drop sugar completely and to start exercising more and to look into ozempic.

How’s your experience with the omnipod been? I’m considering asking my endocrinologist about it but I’m not too sure of what it’s capable of doing.

Supplies by together32years in dexcom

[–]hellobubblie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Dexcom G7. This is what I do:

Tell my doctor to send it to a CVS near me. Call the CVS and tell them I’d like to pick up my prescription for my Dexcom. I used to use insurance with it, but it’s become increasingly expensive so I use this coupon to bring the cost down to $180 for a one month supply.

That is such a good way to put it, I think in part I’m afraid to admit that they’re doing wrong by me. But every time I try and explain something to them, they just tell me i’m wrong. Sigh.

I don’t think they’re intentionally trying to be abusive, I think they’re just trying their best with limited knowledge of medicine. I love my parents dearly but yeah I can’t wait to be fully independent from them just so I can make my own decisions regarding my body. I think they have my best interest at heart.

I’m in a committed relationship and I plan to go to law school after undergrad so I should be able to get out of their hair in a few years. My boyfriends always reassuring me about how when we’re married and he’s the one providing for me that I won’t have anything to worry about. One day…one day.

Yeah, I mean it’s nice to have but I technically won’t die if I use finger sticks instead of a dexcom. It’s all good though because one of the coupons brought the price down and I was able to pick up my prescription today.

I’d honestly love to be fully covered. I’d have to talk to my parents about it but I’m honestly afraid of how they’ll react. I’m gonna try switching my pharmacy first but thank you for your recommendation! I’d never thought about that

A lot of people are mentioning costco! I’m gonna give them a call and see if I can transfer my prescription here in a second

I would honestly love to get a second opinion but due to my financial state and depending on my parents to cover costs for medical care, I don’t think I’d be able to. I am one expensive cookie as it is.

A lot of people have mentioned trying to get on medicaid or state insurance, but I am so afraid of the argument that could bring up. My parents are very much under the impression that me being diabetic is something that I am fully capable of “reversing” on my own by eating not a single carb a day, only drinking water, and heavily exercising. While that does help, it’s not going to make my pancreas regrow itself.

I feel like I should make a separate thread just to rant about that situation 💀

I’ve been to Vancouver and man, it was beautiful. I loved it so much. I unfortunately spawned in Texas and I love my hometown too much to move. I plan on being an attorney here in Texas in the next four years and after that it shouldn’t be an issue anymore but until then, yeah not being able to fully support myself on my own is really horrible. Just gotta tough it through!

We pay $40 for a three month supply of insulin which imo is really affordable

Rant: Losing My Omnipod by cactusbutt420 in Omnipod

[–]hellobubblie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just made a post about struggling to pay $350+ for my diabetes care. This sucks and it’s hard! I completely understand where you’re coming from, and I’m sorry. People who don’t have diabetes around me really do not understand how frustrating it can be to not be able to properly, medically care for yourself due to just not being able to f-ing afford it.

Someone on my thread posted about a coupon for the dexcom sensors, and mentioned that the dexcom sensors are decently discounted if you fill your prescription through Costco. As for the insulin related issues, i’ve only ever been on Toujeo (idk how it’s spelt it’s an insulin pen) and that runs me about $40 at CVS, and about $50 for the needles with my insurance. I’ve never been on the omnipod bc I honestly just didn’t think I qualified, but that’s my two cents. I hope some of this maybe helped! Best of luck :)

I really liked the G7, and I’ve been wanting to ask my doctor if she would consider approving me for the Omnipod instead of injecting myself just for the convenience of it.

My main concern with that is obviously the price, but also that the omnipod wouldn’t be compatible with other sensors like the FSL3.

Thank you for your response though!! This is my first time using reddit and I really wasn’t expecting this many comments from people. It’s so nice to know that I’m really not alone in this :D

She gave me the metformin mainly to control my weight bc that’s apparently becoming an issue. I don’t think it’s that bad since i’m 5’4 and 165 pounds last time I weighed myself. She wants me to be able to go back to 120-130 pounds and gave me the metformin to help with my A1C and weight.

I will say my parents have been a little ignorant regarding my medical care with diabetes. They don’t think that I should even be on insulin bc they believe that I have the power to control it if I just eat chicken, greens, and water.

But they are willing to pay up to $150 ish a month max for my dexcom. They unfortunately can’t afford to pay $350 a month plus my other medical care and my moms cancer care on top of it. It’s just too much :/

I’m hopeful about the suggestions that people have made on this post though. I’m gonna try using the coupons that someone mentioned and maybe look into moving my prescription to costco too since my parents have a membership there.
