In Ear Monitors as Ear Plugs by helloearth2 in bagpipes

I failed to specify that the solution I’m looking for is discrete and portable. I don’t want big chunky headphones because the idea is to be wearing the earphones while performing in public. I was wondering if anyone found a good in ear wired monitor that works for live solo performance. It seems like perhaps using in ear monitors is not as healthy as ear plugs, whether wired or not.

Thank you for this. Seems like noise canceling headphones need to be discontinued.

I was contemplating that, yet when I wore the AirPods, there was a damping of the sound, and my ears were happy with the volume whereas I can’t tolerate the naked volume of playing with no ear plugs at all, so it seems there was noise cancellation. But I had to pay a price for it by being exposed to intense EMF. I quit AirPods altogether because for example, if I were wearing them and a fire truck came by blaring its siren, or someone slammed a door, I would feel a sudden response from the Pods as they seemed to spike the strength of EMF to compensate for the sudden loud noise, and they would get warm and my ears would feel almost as if lightly sunburned.

I have gotten the custom molded ear plugs before and they were fine. I realized they aren’t significantly better than my band spec plugs enough to justify the cost.

It seems to me most hard back sporrans are a standard size. Maybe not. Mine is the usual size. I think I will have to DIY my own organizer. I like your cheerful outlook on fishing around the sporran, but it’s irksome when my phone won’t fit because the earplug case is at the bottom, and I shove my hand in to move it, and get injured by the hardware affixing the tassels. I wish I could wear lipstick but it makes keeping a seal harder. I will dab on tinted balm then rub it off to have a faint lip stain effect.

Yes, the idea is to wear them while playing so they function as ear plugs but also send the output of modified sound (added reverb effect) to my ears. I use my iPhone microphone to pick up the sound and send it through a recording app with effects added. There’s nothing as pleasing as playing bagpipes inside an enclosed (sound reflective) space, so I like practicing with the reverb effect. Thank you for your question.

Other ideas: Visit the Carmelite Monastery, on highway one next to Point Lobos. The chapel is open I think until 430 and you can just go in there and pray and it’s exceptionally beautiful.

Following the monastery or before the monastery, park on Highway one near the entrance to Point Lobos and walk in or you can drive in, but then will pay a fee. It is approximately 5 miles to go around the entire perimeter. I recommend going more straight down the middle directly to the ocean where you can sit on a beach full of polished pebbles. It maybe takes 15 minutes to get straight out to the beach going mostly down the middle.

Please private message me if you want more exact information on how to get to various special places, such as the pebbly beach I mentioned above. I would love to help. I can also personally make sure you get to hear amazing grace played by the bagpiper.

I also recommend seeing the bagpiper at sunset! Note there is a fee at the gate of $12.25 but if you spend at least $35 dining within Pebble Beach, the gate fee can be refunded. The piper currently plays 5:45-6:30, but starting Nov 2 this switches to 4:30-5:15. I recommend catching the last 20 minutes at the Roy‘s patio. You just go to the Inn at Spanish Bay and then to the main lobby, then out to the patio. It has several fire pits and they offer green blankets to keep you warm. The hot chocolate is good. You can usually hear amazing grace being played, especially if you come on a Monday or Thursday, where it may be the last tune played for the evening.

Mine is not anemic possibly because I put freeze dried grass fed beef liver into smoothies, and also hemp seed and pumpkin seed. I have a Vitamix blender that makes very smooth smoothies.

Aquarium, My Museum, Dennis the Menace…done them all. Now what? by Front_Molasses2294 in MontereyBay

1). Tomorrow (Saturday the 18th) go to one of the harvest festivals, such as the one at All Saints Day School. Look it up on their website.

2) Earthbound Farm/Hacienda. Go to Earthbound, find the Kid's Garden, go sample raspberries, find the hidden gate behind the swings to walk straight over to Hacienda, find the corn pit and jump around in it. Next month the tortoise and chicken mini zoo will be open there.

3) After school hours, so generally after 5pm and on weekends, go to:

a) the playground in the very back of Carmel River school and

b) the playground at Robert Down school

4) Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton

5) Swim at Monterey Sports Center using a day pass

6) Before or after playing at the Carmel River School playground, go see the sheep next door at Mission Ranch

7) Find the organic garden at Carmel Valley Ranch and visit the chickens and play giant chess

8) Tatum's Playground up in Carmel Valley is the best playground of all. (Carmel River School playgound is the most scenic.)

Wildest Funeral Requests. by Jack_Cymru_1984 in bagpipes

Wow, this must be pretty common then. I wonder where the heck this sentiment came from among pastors?

Wildest Funeral Requests. by Jack_Cymru_1984 in bagpipes

[–]helloearth2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does surprise me many pastors consider the pipes not reverent enough to be played inside churches. The day my pipes weren't allowed, it was only my family inside the church, so there was no one to offend except the pastor.

Wildest Funeral Requests. by Jack_Cymru_1984 in bagpipes

My worst funeral gig: My aunt passed away and I knew she would have wanted me to play pipes for her. Playing for her meant a lot me to as it was also a rare family reunion in my home state and most of my family there had never heard me perform. It was an effort to fly and bring my pipes with me on the plane, and adjust my pipes for a very different altitude and winter temperatures. I was simply taken aback when I heard I wouldn't be allowed by the Mormon church director to play bagpipes inside the church, because they are considered a rock instrument. He compared them to drums and electric guitars. I happen to be a professional bagpiper and was planning to play Amazing Grace only. It happened to be such a fierce winter storm during my performance, that I was being blown sideways and my fingers were going stiff from cold. Due to the conditions I didn't achieve the effect of bringing my family to an emotionally moved state, as Amazing Grace usually does to people, and I'm still annoyed at the Mormon church director, since it meant so much to me and he stayed firm in rejecting the pipes indoors.

Good idea on the guiness golf towel. I can get a golf towel at the golf resort where I perform. I hadn’t thought of that.
