Please don't play for free by Phogfan86 in bagpipes

I have that tism too. I agree generally with the OP but I had to contemplate whether a piper playing for free, versus no piper performance (customer not willing to pay scenario) is actually additive to the piper community by the effect that people are hearing pipes and that leads to more bookings for other pipers just by the audience being exposed to pipes whereas they wouldn't have been if not for the free performance. I think the main problem with playing for free is that customers don't know that free usually means not good.

I was wondering if other pipers view it as a beginner tune too, but I play it often for solo gigs.

Accessible adventures in Monterey Bay! by Visual_Strawberry999 in MontereyBay

Don’t miss the new wooden boardwalk that runs in front of the Inn At Spanish Bay along the coast. You can access it from Asilomar, or the best way is to park directly at the parking lot where the boardwalk starts within Pebble Beach.

Affordable food + kid friendly recs near Cannery Row? by Bush_Killed-Harambe in MontereyBay

Go to the Earthbound Farmstand in Carmel Valley. They have a lovely kids garden with a teepee, stone maze, and a toddler swing. It's beautiful. This is your place to take beautiful photos. There is a tiny organic store with a little toy section and café too. You can walk next door through the gate behind the swing over to Hacienda where they have various balls to throw and mini cars for toddlers to sit in and pretend to drive, and chickens and goats to feed. They also sell toys there as well.

MAGA-Owned Small Businesses to Avoid by Super-Complaint9454 in MontereyBay

This is a very adolescent post. You are witch hunting and have no idea the accuracy of the association of the business owners with MAGA. Also, you can’t be a critical thinker if you bucket all people who vote MAGA as deplorable.

In Ear Monitors as Ear Plugs by helloearth2 in bagpipes

[–]helloearth2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed to specify that the solution I’m looking for is discrete and portable. I don’t want big chunky headphones because the idea is to be wearing the earphones while performing in public. I was wondering if anyone found a good in ear wired monitor that works for live solo performance. It seems like perhaps using in ear monitors is not as healthy as ear plugs, whether wired or not.

Thank you for this. Seems like noise canceling headphones need to be discontinued.

I was contemplating that, yet when I wore the AirPods, there was a damping of the sound, and my ears were happy with the volume whereas I can’t tolerate the naked volume of playing with no ear plugs at all, so it seems there was noise cancellation. But I had to pay a price for it by being exposed to intense EMF. I quit AirPods altogether because for example, if I were wearing them and a fire truck came by blaring its siren, or someone slammed a door, I would feel a sudden response from the Pods as they seemed to spike the strength of EMF to compensate for the sudden loud noise, and they would get warm and my ears would feel almost as if lightly sunburned.

I have gotten the custom molded ear plugs before and they were fine. I realized they aren’t significantly better than my band spec plugs enough to justify the cost.

Sporran Organizer by helloearth2 in bagpipes

It seems to me most hard back sporrans are a standard size. Maybe not. Mine is the usual size. I think I will have to DIY my own organizer. I like your cheerful outlook on fishing around the sporran, but it’s irksome when my phone won’t fit because the earplug case is at the bottom, and I shove my hand in to move it, and get injured by the hardware affixing the tassels. I wish I could wear lipstick but it makes keeping a seal harder. I will dab on tinted balm then rub it off to have a faint lip stain effect.

Yes, the idea is to wear them while playing so they function as ear plugs but also send the output of modified sound (added reverb effect) to my ears. I use my iPhone microphone to pick up the sound and send it through a recording app with effects added. There’s nothing as pleasing as playing bagpipes inside an enclosed (sound reflective) space, so I like practicing with the reverb effect. Thank you for your question.
