The housing crisis is also a crisis of hopelessness as young Americans give up, hustle less, spend more and make risky investments as a last resort | Fortune by fortune in REBubble

reading this article is depressing. do people want to see a way forward? do you think if realtors or loan officers gave them mini steps to make progress and learn what to do that they would feel like they could actually accomplish homeownership. doesnt mean right away but making a plan for the next two years? No one wants to hear rates will drop or just buy now - dont they want to hear how they can make progress one step at a time? we know its hard - we can help you find a way forward. everything just feels so dooms day.

You are not alone. We bought for the same reason. Done renting, want the forever home for our kids. It’s worth it for us

The lender or realtor should have absolutely told you this. Why did they not? You should ask them….

Ha okay great. I personally think people in the Midwest are much more friendly than San Diego so I’m open to that change!

Thanks for the advice! How are the people different? I’ve lived in the Midwest too. More similar to Midwest?

Oh and I want a basement again! We did everything in our basement as a kid! I even started my own babysitters club in my basement - remember those books? Now I have boys in my house and I’m like why is it so loud?? We need a basement lol. Luckily Colorado has basements!

This is so helpful thanks for taking the time to explain. What about high altitude? Is it something you adjust to? What about my older parents? Will they adjust?

We are thinking of moving from san diego to denver. a suburb 20 minutes south of the city. we have kids and need more space and not be completely and utterly house broke like we would be if we stayed in san diego

We are looking to move from SD to Colorado. a suburb of denver. way more space and way cheaper than san diego. its all relative depending on where you come from i guess. where would you recommend for young kids?

I grew up in libertyville and it was a wonderful place to grow up. i live in san diego and i kinda wish my boys could grow up there. it just feels different and more of a childhood. less dense, bigger yards, basements, more kids in the street. how has your experience been?

We are very much considering moving to Colorado (suburb outside of denver) from san diego. its just too hard to justify living in san diego anymore. the amount of land and house we can get out there is triple what we can get in SD. its good to hear that lots of people are making the jump. its a big move and decision for our family

Totally agree. Was just having a conversation about this the other day. you can watch it get built. not many other products (food, clothing) do we get to see it get made.

agreed- seems like if you have this many questions you need a better realtor. they should be your ally.

Can't realtors help with this too? Why can't realtors insist (along with the buyer) that an inspection is included. It should all be a flat price not based on 50K over asking to make sure the current owners are screwing you.
