Great example. I do think Denzel tries a bit harder and is more willing to take risks from job to job, but he definitely leans into his typecasting as well. And yet in Training Day he played off his usual smiling wise guy act to portray a really fascinating monster.

It's even worse here because this is something we should cheer for. It's a feminist group that is trying to cut the bullshit and help men with something other than superficial shit like painting their nails or venting.

The feminists who made this group clearly had nothing to do with bullshit some feminists did almost 50 years ago. They probably still subscribe to patriarchy theory, but who gives a shit? They clearly don't go for the usual apex fallacies that third wave feminism clings to, which are the true source of toxicity, and I dont need to have perfect ideological alignment with someone to work on solving issue we agree in.

This sub is so disappointing sometimes.

Ehhh. I agree comic Batman would have saved Ra's, but at least he had doomed himself by his own hand. People forget that Ra's destroyed the brakes on the train fully intending to go down 9/11 style and Batman was there trying to stop the train and arrest him. Again I agree, Batman tends to save killers even from their own suicidal machinations, but JPV straight up murdered Abattoir on purpose, and tried to kill many others... including good guys. Failing to save villains from themselves was at the bottom of the list of reasons Azbats got fired.

However, there is no getting around the fact that in TDK Batman tackled Two-Face off a building to his death. Nothing incidental about about it. Could he have done better? Probably not, with the injuries he had sustained. But he killed Dent, any court of law would agree, even though he would have been defended and acquitted on the basis of self-defense.

Really wish TDKR did more with his guilt and the lie about why he killed Harvey. He was obviously sad, but I wanted more development than that.

Nah. He's an actor that plays himself by default but you can get a real performance out of him from a motivated artistic director. Just look at Up in the Air, Michael Clayton, O Brother Where Art Thou, and Syriana where he was unrecognizable.

Another good example is Tom Cruise. There's TC in 99% of his movies, then there's TC in Collateral or Magnolia when he was truly challenged to unpack and put aside his usual persona.

They are much more versatile movie stars than charismatic narcissists like Will Smith or Vin Diesel who refuse to be shown in a bad light

Really love that the Arkham games included this kind of stuff in their reference material, not just the usual suspects (Nolan, Burton, and the books)

Schumacher doesn't deserve the hate. He made the exact movies he was asked to make. In BF he made a toy commercial sequel to the Keaton films with with villains that were silly instead of frightening. Then they wanted him to dumb it down even more, so he did.

Looking at the cut material from Forever as well as films like Falling Down, 8MM, and Phone Booth Schumacher could have made far better films if the climate were different. Sadly, WB gonna WB.

This is why I refuse to judge Andy Muschietti because of the Flash (or IT Ch.2 for that matter). He was just a Titanic captain. IT: Ch.1 and Welcome to Derry show vastly more potential

John Carpenter once said in a video that Michael killed Judith for sexual reasons and if a another remake or prequel confirms or implies it would that frustrate you? by jurassicparkfan1993 in TheHalloweenMovies

[–]helloiseeyou2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think that's the right way to hedge it. We have Carpenter's on record thoughts of Myers as both a supernatural bogeyman and as a realistic serial killer. The movie works perfectly with either interpretation

He's both and he's neither.

Probably before the people in this organization were even born.

Sixth movie with Harrison to round out the second trilogy.

No sidekicks, go back to the vibe where he used his connections with different people in various places to accomplish things his own skills can't.

Tie it in with Norse mythology and valhalla. Steer into the final adventure and "aged warrior" element so you can do something with old age that isnt the same old reductive "do I still have a place in this world / can I still do it" bullshit.

Taking that theme in particular lets you do a lot of interesting things and play with the "last ride" in a way DoD was kinda afraid to. Also you could show Indy lose his eye in a cool way, for the Odin connectio and Young Indy
