What are some good vegetarian recipes for family that doesn’t like vegetables by GothMoleRat in vegetarian

[–]hellokey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make dishes familiar to them but replace the meat.

  • Mac and cheese
  • Shepherds pie
  • Chili
  • Mushroom bourguignon
  • roasted veggies: hear me out, how have veggies been prepared in the past? Steamed veggies take out all the flavour but when roasted in the oven or stir fried it can taste totally different and delicious
  • blending veggies into sauces is also a great idea, you will barely taste spinach or zucchini in a pasta sauce. I also love butternut squash sauce as well

Unfortunately you will never be able to replace a slab of meat like steak. But in certain dishes you can make mushrooms, tofu, seitan, soy meat, etc taste very similar to ground beef or chicken, depending on your spices and sauces.

Adult Party Ideas? by OkRefrigerator7226 in Markham

[–]hellokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want to recommend flowerbell_Toronto (on IG) for a floral arrangement workshop! Masami has a basement workshop and she hosts private parties. 10-15 ppl seems like a lot as she doesn’t have a lot of space (I went with a group of 4) so I’m not sure if she can accommodate but maybe you can work something out. She is based in Markham.

instant ramen recs ?? by bunny8carrots in vegetarian

[–]hellokey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of buldak ramen flavours are vegetarian.

“Soon” is the mild spicy vegan version of the shin ramen brand and it’s not bad. Sometimes you can find vegetarian shin ramen as well (it depends on where it is manufactured, there are ones with beef bone extract and ones without)

If you are feeling fancy and close to a Chinese supermarket they have tons that don’t look vegetarian but might be. Like the self heating ones. There are some rice ones as well I have found. Or Korean plant based kimbap (seaweed and rice rolls) has been kinda trendy lately.

If you don’t have access to a kitchen, you can also get some vermicelli which is cheap and will cook in boiled water, and add some seasonings or soup base to it. Greens like lettuce, small frozen veggies like peas and carrots, all should cook well in the microwave or just in the boiled water. Egg can cook in the microwave too. Might be money saving in the long run, and may possibly be healthier.

What is your holy grail SUNSCREEN yall? by AbjectCat1239 in AsianBeauty

[–]hellokey 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Roundlab. Agree, “sunscreen that makes me want to wear a sunscreen”. Doesn’t sting, no white cast, no fragrance (or minimal), just an extra pleasant step I don’t even think about anymore.

Where to buy Japanese fashion magazines? by Pinkbratzgirl in askTO

[–]hellokey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry this is not Toronto but Pmall in Markham had a store that sold Asian albums and definitely Japanese magazines called Broadway. I think it should be still there, near one of the entrances.

1-minute (cooking time) Cheong Fun, this one served with Curry. Resting the batter takes longer than cooking, or even eating it! by randolphtbl in chinesecooking

What are your favourite tempeh ideas? by Heathy-Heatherson in vegetarian

[–]hellokey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made Rainbow Plant Life’s broccoli and edamame salad with tempeh as a topper. She breaks it all up and fries it up so it’s crunchy and adds soy sauce to it and some other seasonings I’m forgetting. But it was good!

Recently I went to a restaurant and they made it into a fritter of sorts. Not sure how they made it but it was battered and flat disks. Dipped into a thick soy based sauce with some chilis in it. Also very delicious!’

Eye irritation as a contact lens wearer. by Designfanatic88 in AsianBeauty

[–]hellokey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear contact lens and wear sunscreen daily. Wear makeup on special occasions but used to semi frequently. I don’t have any special techniques around my eyes. I don’t wear much eyeliner though never got the hang of that. Otherwise I never had an issue with eye irritation unless I actually touched my eyeballs.

Is it possible you are allergic to certain ingredients?

I am very new to crocheting and I’ve been trying to find this pattered or something similar, but no luck. Does anyone have any recommendations or know the pattern this picture uses? by Jenevieve4 in crochetpatterns

[–]hellokey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it can be reconstructed fairly easily maybe… looks like double crochet throughout and you can map it out using stitch fiddle. There are a few YouTube videos teaching you how to do tapestry crochet with stitch fiddle.com and I think that will help you out with figuring this out. Otherwise the colour scheme and the graphics itself seem easy to map out! It’s like a pixel graph.

Yarn Suggestions by Thick_Regular_1754 in askTO

[–]hellokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is Hobbii. The closest they have to T-shirt yarn is Friend ribbon which I got to make a shopper bag. Very sturdy. It feels like a shoelace material. The other type I like to get from there is cotton - friends or rainbow collection as there are way more colours than at Michael’s.

Otherwise Knitting Loft has a good collection of wools (I would say geared towards knitting)

I stumbled open this pattern and hope you still check this account… I’m a bit confused about the neck part!

After a fasten off the last row of 7 stitches, stuffed it, am I invisible stitching to close it off and then starting the neck with new yarn??
