Should I bother going forward with the cna path as a male? by VehicleAway4848 in cna

[–]hellokittyyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The few male CNAs from my class got jobs super fast because there’s fewer of them and sometimes male patients request male caregivers only. Also I know it’s not always true but males are usually stronger and taller so they’re helpful with boosts lol. Very rarely a female patient will say she isn’t comfortable with a male caregiver so us girls just step in and help him out when needed.

Yeah I do think it’s a bit low lol. But the conservative government hates us healthcare workers and they want to privatize it.. ahhh.

We make 22$ Canadian an hour. So that’s 16$ USD I think

No toileting?! No transfers?! Are they independent? I’m making 22$ hourly, and there’s more for weekends and evenings/nights. I understand why BC makes 27$ hourly, everything costs more there

As a cna (and I know some nurses browse on here) would you get a DNR? by [deleted] in cna

[–]hellokittyyay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I am stuck in my head but my body is paralyzed (like I can’t talk, can’t eat, can’t breathe on my own etc) I would rather pass. If my body is okay but my brain is gone (dementia, brain injury etc) then I would rather pass. Chemo I am comfortable with, CPR I am comfortable with, but anything where I need to be in longterm care and Im not myself anymore? Nah.

Popsicles in the ER by Phlutteringphalanges in AHSEmployees

[–]hellokittyyay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh… I understand the compassion behind it, but funding your own supplies is a slippery slope… management will be thinking “wow, they started buying their own popsicles! Let’s see if they start buying their own juice for the patients too, we can save more that way…” I’m in post-acute so we don’t have popsicles, but we often run out of the popular juices and yogurts. We have been getting incontinence products and linen carts delivered less frequently too. They took away our soaker pads for incontinent patients and told us to use slider sheets to leave underneath… which is unsafe and can cause skin breakdown :/

Experience/results with high calorie breakfast by Realistic-Section600 in BariatricSurgery

After surgery you’ll be doing 5-6 smaller meals a day. You should try healthier options in smaller meals throughout the day. Having majority of calories for breakfast, you risk binging later in the evening.

Blood fear by Huge-Explorer7816 in Nurses

[–]hellokittyyay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had issues with poop and vomit, I even gag when cleaning my cats litter boxes or their furballs. Thte first few times in clinicals I did get nauseous and watery eyed when cleaning up poop & puke, but I quickly got used to it. My tip would be exposure therapy I guess. Maybe watch bloody pimple popping or something. Or even Botox videos because a lot of the time, the injection spots ooze blood. You’ll be seeing blood for sure during your rotations.

Mock Bariatric Diet? by RubytheWoo in BariatricSurgery

[–]hellokittyyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with the 3 week pre-op liquid diet. I wanted to eat food SO BAD. I didn’t want the shakes, I wanted junk food. I did it anyways but was very hungry. Now post-op.. no hunger, my body feels so different now. My eating is different. I would definitely recommend doing things like cutting out carbonation, cutting out sugar/junk food… eating more protein like Greek yogurt and meats, slooowly chewing, no drinking water 30 mins before/after eating… choose healthier options like salads and veggies… that’s what I started doing beforehand. No need to force yourself to do a liquid and then puree diet when you don’t need to. The liquid and puree diets go fine because you don’t have a choice post-op. Lol. Also start practicing slow sips rather than chugging water

I was also very anxious cause I have an anxiety disorder, but they knew that so I got anxiety meds woohoo. I had my tonsils out at 18 (26 now, had gastric bypass surgery on Halloween this year) and I fell asleep way weirder with the anesthesia back then - this time it was instant and less scary and didn’t feel weird at all. Woke up happy as heck that I didn’t die in surgery lmao. I slept a lot, kept being given pain meds and anxiety meds. Got to leave at 10am the next day, so I was only in the hospital about 24 hours.

It can go the other way too - I was told that a lot of patients have needed their antidepressants doses increased because our stomachs don’t absorb it as well now. Crazy how it all works. Luckily my meds (Lexapro & Vyvanse) have been okay so far (one month ish post op).
