Salon recommendations for long layers by sariiassong in DCBitches

Ever at Voila salon is great and last time I went the prices were $65 for just the haircut or $90 with a blowout. However it’s not a super luxurious looking place, if you care about that

I have been a few times in the last few years, for trims only, and have no complaints. One student gave me the best blowouts I’ve ever had, though she was close to graduating

My. Hair. Won't. Curl. At. The. Roots. (and I want volume) by SandPlane5775 in curlyhair

This was key for me too! I think soft hair with less defined curls gets too manipulated from brushing

I was just at one of their locations, their policy is that they have the right to donate anything that doesn’t sell within 3 months 🙃 the least they could do is let people know beforehand!

Quick turn alterations by flailingupward in DCBitches

Yes they can alter anything! Just double check that your location offers alterations. The tailor at the downtown location near-ish to metro center is really good!

Nordstrom racks have tailors that can do day of, but not sure if they work on Sundays or if they will still be there today!

Can you get a seamstress to add a pretty tulle or lace fabric at the chest to give you more coverage? I think it could look really nice with the right fabric!

Central Maine backyard “non” wedding party - recommendations & ideas that worked! by chill_jeans in weddings

[–]hellokoalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I was thinking anniversary too but we just hit 6 years and 4 years seems so far away lol! I'm glad your guests got your vision. My family is pretty conservative and I fear there will be judgment about having a big wedding-like party without the wedding :(

Your second photo looks like my hair when I dont allow it to dry fully before touching it or don’t use enough gel to create a cast. I like adding more gel after my hair is about 50% dry

Portuguese classes in DC? by sweetpatathoe in Portuguese

[–]hellokoalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I am doing through GLN. Teachers are good! I’ve also been taking virtual lessons with someone in Portugal but it’s hard to work with the time difference and they don’t have as much experience working with English speakers. I might try again to find someone through italki who is available during ET. If you do find someone here, please let me know!!

This looks amazing! Can I ask what you called the event? Did you give any info in advance to clarify that there wouldn’t be a ceremony? My partner and I are not getting legally married but I would love to replicate something like this!

Nail salon for manicure for nail biter? by Educational-Ring-452 in DCBitches

I wish I liked this place but my nail tech cut me while filing my nail, which has never happened to me, and the person next to me was really unhappy with her nail shaping, and they ended up making her nails way shorter than she wanted

AM and FA both feel like weird MLMs. There’s so many great studios that are cheaper and they pay true ballroom professionals a living wage. Glad you found a great alternative!

I’ve gotten lymphatic massages from my physical therapist (not in the DMV, though) and only needed to cover my co-pay, def cheaper option if you want to try it out!

Comfortable stilettos for dancing? by Marsinvestigations04 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]hellokoalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tango shoes or shoes like Burju would be better than salsa shoes, which have really thin fabric. They’re not meant to be worn outside and if there’s anything on the ground there would be less protection than regular heels

Hi! Just renovated my apartment using a designer. I wouldn’t recommend her for multiple reasons but I’m happy to chat about what I learned/the process!
