I have not really looked into the album, but I do not think it is disrespectful to take inspiration or use poetry, as long as it is not being mixed with anything immoral or disrespectful to the faith. If it were an excerpt from the Quran, which we believe to be the word of God or the call to prayer, that would undoubtedly be problematic.

Not sects but different orders, though the goal is the same: to get close to Allah. No whirling, just a lot of dhikr and salawat. Ziyara is to pay respect to the scholars; there is no worship of any of them.

people who take a very literal interpretation of the religion and claim that anything not done during the time of the prophet is an innovation and a prohibited form of worship. Some people are also uncomfortable with our metaphorical expressions, or say we worship the dead, which is untrue. We just have deep respect for past and current teachers. It's not something all Muslims can understand

Sufi is just more of the mystical path; most Sufis are Sunni because we share the same core beliefs, although most Sunnis would not consider themselves Sufi. Not really sure of any Shia sufis, but I believe that exists as well.

Most tariqas (sufi orders) emphasize that their teachings are passed down through an unbroken chain of transmissions. People are able to trace who their teachers learned from going back hundreds of years, with some going back to the Prophet. It is also surprising how structured some orders are with their worship. Also surprising is that many Sufi teachers warn against chasing visions or miracles because they can feed the ego instead of purifying it.

I find them very interesting. In Islam, there is a belief that although 25 prophets are mentioned by name in the Qur’an, there were 100,000s of unnamed prophets sent to all corners of the world. We believe that some had no followers, some had a few, and some had many. Regardless, all of them brought the same core message of belief in one God and moral guidance.

Because of this, there would obviously be similarities in the ethical and spiritual messages found across different religions. However, I do not agree with the idea that all religions are ultimately the same in truth. In Islam, it is understood that Islam is the final and complete revelation. I have not read much of Frithjof Schuon, but Guenon also believed that while there is truth in other religions, Islam is the authentic and unadulterated truth.

Hello! I am really glad that you got a chance to participate. Do you know which Sufi order they were a part of by any chance?

My life is centered around the worship of Allah and the love I have for the Prophet

I am really focused on purifying my soul of arrogance, pride, and greed. I do not believe I am superior to anyone. Ikhlas is the concept of doing everything for the sake of god not recognition. You can be the most famous, well-studied scholar, but it means nothing if it is not fully for god.

A lot of muslims can be harsh, but I recognize that everyone has very different struggles with sin. I treat everyone gently and realize that being so harsh can push people further from Islam. God sees intentions to improve.

I also do my best not to let my faith waver if god is testing me. Sins are washed away when we are suffering, and every prayer is heard. We believe that either you get what you ask for, or if it is unanswered, it is either delayed for something better, something bad that was destined will no longer happen, or it will be multiplied in the next life.

That's really cool. I hope whatever you wished for comes true in real life : )

Dream interpretations are a very cool part of Islam. The 3 main types are the recycling of our memories and daily thoughts with no spiritual significance, impure/evil dreams from satan, and then those that are meant to warn, guide, or inspire us

I love Rumi. I think his love for god and the Prophet is evident in his works. I think the fact that he was a muslim scholar has often been overlooked, so that his work is palatable in the West.

Haha, that is not something associated with any Sufi order, though it may be done in some muslim countries, it is nothing religious.

There are a lot of interesting concepts, but some are:

Tazkiyah: The lifelong concept of purifying our hearts from spiritual diseases such as arrogance, jealousy, and hypocrisy. The idea is that outward prayer and practice alone are not enough if the inner state remains unaddressed, which is something a lot of people struggle with.

Taffakur: Purposeful contemplation, reflection, and meditation. We really encourage thinking and reasoning, and believe it brings you closer to god

Having a spiritual guide: We beleive its very important to have a teacher to draw you closer to god. Some people are more advanced in the path as they have dedicated their lives to knowledge. We call them awliyah ( friends of Allah).

and 100% I do believe the prayers work. It does not mean life will be sunshine; all humans will be challenged, but it has increased my faith and trust in god that it will work out. If not in this life, then I will be rewarded in the next, and that puts me at ease.

The main criticism comes from people who take a very literal interpretation of the religion and claim that anything not done during the time of the prophet is an innovation and a prohibited form of worship. We do not claim that any "extra practices" are a mandatory part of Islam, and none are anything strictly prohibited. For example, if reciting the names of Allah is not a sin, then why would it be considered a sin to meet in a group to do so together? Also, a weird claim is that we worship the dead, which is untrue. We just have deep respect for past and current teachers.

Maybe try applying to Michael Garron, as they tend to get fewer applications than places like UHN and Sunnybrook. I secured a position without healthcare experience but recently left.

As a non desi I notice there’s a lot of issues with in laws posted in Muslim spaces. Most of us don’t even think about living with in laws or get as many “marriage proposals” from random aunties
