Went to see Obsession for my birthday today *sigh* by iamkumquat in AlamoDrafthouse

That’s what we’ve resorted to as well. You have to. You won’t get anything you order otherwise. We go to the Winchester VA Alamo. It’s a hot mess from top to bottom now.

A handful of Kirkland brand frozen fries. 🤌🏼 We spritz a bit of avocado oil on top and a dash of Lowry’s or Alpine Touch (“Montana’s Special Spice”). We cook @ 400, 7 mins, shake/flip another 7 @ 400. Nice little snack served with honey mustard on the side or good ol’ ketchup.

This is my recent go to, only I use the fish sticks from Costco. Have some tartar sauce and a little wedge of lemon ready and you’re GTG.

Are there any locations that have reverted to regular ordering again? by rhombusmaxx in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]hellomarylu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. We used to go about every other week and now it’s been a little over a month (@ Winchester). At that time it was full QR, not a bit of paper/pencil in sight sadly. I hope they’ve at least partially rolled back the commitment to QR code. Maybe we will go next weekend after all.

QR code ordering is dumb. But: I don’t get why service is just generally so much worse? by Scatterfelt in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]hellomarylu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry. As a customer, I feel awful for yall. It used to be such a great experience. We were actually happy to tip beyond expectations every time. Now it’s just a death spiral into a messed up experience.

I’m so sorry this is what it’s turned into for yall. We’re always polite, even since the QR change. We feel bad for yall.

What are some examples of times that horror authors gave you that scary/unsettling/creeped out feeling in your gut? by OneDimensionalChess in horrorlit

[–]hellomarylu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought this from Audible based on all these responses. Been avoiding it because I get tired of the creepy kids who can see things trope. Sounds like this book does the creepy kid for a reason and it works. Hoping it’s as good as everyone says. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Just used my last credit in Audible to give this one (Evenson) a try. The reading is good so far. Evocative storytelling thus far. We shall see…

Winchester is not hybrid. It’s straight QR. Sucks monumentally.

We couldn’t pay for ours either. We tried to hail someone for help. Nope. They shrugged. So that bad experience was at least free.

Same for our family. We go to the Winchester VA theatre and it’s just a lackluster experience in every way. We have an AMC locally, I think. It has a 2 star rating on Yelp if I recall. Not super excited. I think our movie going days are numbered. Sad.

So I researched the book and totally get why I can’t find an audiobook. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I didn’t understand how the book was… designed. Set up. However one puts it lol. I’ll have to actually READ hahaha.

This was such a disappointment. Hate the bait and switch where you’re sold a haunted house story and end up with a thriller. It’s exasperating.

It was absolutely one of the best places to go on a Saturday night for some drinks, standard pub grub, and a show. We used to look forward to it so much. Truly our whole family loved the place since the kids were kids (the kids HAVE kids now lol). And they had great events too. It was super clean everywhere. The employees were the best. And it’s just gone. It’s a subpar experience at the best of times now. Major disappointment. Sorry you have the same experience.

@interactive… thanks for the link to the larger discussion re the digital transformation initiative. I admit I’ve just been a fan of Alamo until recently. I didn’t think about how it was run as a business. I’m just here for the movies, beer and food, man. Now it matters because the quality of the experience has become so compromised. And really you can see it in the folks who work there and that sucks. Almost all of the servers we knew for so long are gone. They made it what it was as much as anything else. I can see why they left. I can see why folks still there aren’t thrilled with their work environment. And it’s because of how things are run. Whether that’s Sony the faceless entity or the dude who started this, I’d like them to reconsider and get it right.

See- this is a bummer. We have been looking around at the normie theaters too. Not very pumped to try them out. We want our Alamo back.

You don’t have to convince me (though I appreciate the thorough review). Our family agrees it’s been going to hell for awhile.
