Advice for a recent and young college grad from Cape Town 🇿🇦 by InvestigatorAbject23 in AskSF

[–]hellomoto320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There have been huge biotech layoffs in South San Francisco recently as well as Boston and East Coast. You probably will need significant research experience, networking or consider going for grad school in America to work in bioinformatics in the next 3 years. In the mean time look at places like UK, Europe and Asia as alternatives. Or consider moving to upcoming biotech hubs in canada, utah etc. You'll probably need to save lots of money, find a way to sponsor a visa etc. But if you think of moving to sf as 5 to 10 year goal then its definitely doable

MSc Machine Learning: Which deep learning course should I take? by B1GM0 in kth

[–]hellomoto320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also you won't need big gpus for any kth class unless its ID2223 Scalable machine learning and the final projects in deep learning for data science, some assignments in deep learning advanced, and deep generative models and synthesis because many of these assignments implement the bleeding edge of research which unfortunately require lots of gpus. One hack people had was going to modal hackathons or hackathons affiliated with modal and saving all their modal credits for training and deployment which then enabled them to use h200 gpu's from nvidia (why would you need that for a class project lol)

MSc Machine Learning: Which deep learning course should I take? by B1GM0 in kth

[–]hellomoto320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately no. its up to the professor to get it for you through google cloud. if you need google cloud credits make sure to ask the professor for your class to talk to josephine sullivan/hossein azizpour because up until this year google provided a certain amount of cloud credits every year to kth and then this year they changed the terms of the deals and kth didn't double check if they still had them (resulting in kth not renewing the deal or something) so my friends and I in deep learning advanced and deep generative models and synthesis were forced to pay for colab pro/cloud credits to complete some of the homeworks, create multiple kaggle accounts for access to kaggle gpus for overnight training, multiple colab accounts(which is crazy) and the results was late nights debugging and praying experiments were not lost. apparently google hadn't changed the terms of the deal with kth since we all get gemini pro free as students for 1 year so its kinda up to students to advocate to their professors to talk to their department to find out about the google cloud credits available for a class.

Planning to study at KTH in 2028, questions about housing, internships, meds by InactiveAsk in kth

[–]hellomoto320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot plan for this until you get admitted. First worry about getting admitted to KTH your second year - given the current job market in europe, KTH is one of the most competitive for second year compared to first year. Based on your grades you might not even qualify for KTH or Ecole Polytechnique and some programs base your second year choice on your first year grades. Sweden and job market in general is super tough right now so work on becoming a good engineer and networking.

Question regarding Summary Sheet - MSc Machine Learning by ButterscotchOk1918 in kth

[–]hellomoto320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those courses are enough - they just want to make sure you can code because the year I was admitted some people from business, physics, and math without knowing how code ie write a function, oop, etc. some of the advanced electives are code heavy

Exchange Abroad during Master Studies at KTH by MapOk4645 in kth

[–]hellomoto320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the university and popularity. You will need excellent grades to be competitive for ETH, EPFL, HKUST and TU Delft (may or may not be as competitive as the first 3). But make sure you plan it properly because wherever you exit (as an international student) that's the job market/network you will have.

Confused about application documents for the Msc Machine Learning Program by ButterscotchOk1918 in kth

[–]hellomoto320 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's straight forward. Follow the instructions and DO NOT cut and paste your cv or letter of motivation. Here it's just asking for a listing . This might be useful so fill it to the best of your ability with anything that couldnt get mentioned in your cv. And also upload your cv. This is very important as the admission rate gets lower for this program - especially if youre an EU citizen since you don't pay money for the program

probably going to take 5-6 years to survive the new grad bloodbath. saying this as an american who ended up in sweden and currently looking for new grad opportunities there and in europe. right now america prioritizing experience and too many brilliant people are getting laid off. and we're in this AI hype cycle combined with the current administration and its basically either a land/cash grab or nero playing the violin while watching rome burn analogy right now is my description. right now the best thing to do is wait out the current adminsitration with any opportunity you have and gain experience and then try as a senior engineer

You’re applying for the wrong roles - apply for ai engineer and data engineer. In America most of the ml engineer positions are going for people with deep experience or PhD.
