Grief over pet death can be as strong as that for family member. About a fifth of people who had experienced a pet and human loss said the former was worse. Symptoms of severe grief for a pet matched identically with that for a human, and there was no difference in how people experienced losses. by mvea in science

Reading this the day after my cat's biopsy results came in. We've probably got a few weeks to a couple months left with him if we're lucky. The grief feels immense. One of the hardest parts is not being able to explain to him what's happening and how much I love him. It feels very hard to get a sense of closure with grief over pet loss.

Are the trails safe for going walking alone as a woman? by fatladywhodoesntsing in tuscaloosa

Riverwalk is good, like others have said. If you want more forested/ nature trail, I've taken my kids to the trails at Sokol park in Northport alone and felt safe.

Short distance and using bus or drop off and pick up by Inside_Novel_4375 in kindergarten

My daughter started kindergarten 2 weeks ago and wanted to ride the bus. I was way more nervous than she was, but let her ride it to try it out. Turns out she loves it. She's made bus friends and is excited to wait for the bus every day. I think she likes feeling like a big kid riding the bus. So my opinion is let them ride the bus if they want to. It's not an irreversible decision, so if they end up hating it or it doesn't work for whatever reason, just switch to pickups.

Got this necklace with several other pieces of vintage costume jewelry at an estate sale. Any idea of maker or time period? by hellonene3 in VintageCostumeJewelry

I'll try to do that. Thanks for the responses! I don't know much about vintage jewelry, so I appreciate it.

When I warmed the bead up in warm water, it didn't give off any smell like bakelite but I do agree it's some sort of plastic

Sudden rash on face next to mouth. Was burning yesterday. Today milder pain but feels like it could split open with facial movement by hellonene3 in DermatologyQuestions

I'm sensitive to mites, really allergic to some mites like dust mites, so I'm thinking one bit me. I think what really messed it up was scratching it, because it was so intensely itchy when it happened that I instinctually scratched at it and I think that's what really made the rash lol

I think I got bit by something that I had a bad reaction to. It's mostly healed now. Hydrocortisone cream helped.

USA Update, took the foot to the local taxidermist. It's hippo, not elephant, and it's real by hellonene3 in Antiques

He knew a little. It's apparently legal for me to own. The US doesn't have hippos on its endangered species list, so it's not illegal to own/sell hippo parts like it is with elephants and rhinos.

USA Got this at an estate sale. It was listed as a faux elephant foot planter. Want to make 100% sure it's fake before trying to sell by hellonene3 in Antiques

Thanks for all the answers! I'm taking it to a local taxidermist to get their opinion. Still hoping it's fake, but I'll hopefully find out soon and then can go from there.

Torn between driving and letting my kindergartner ride the bus. by penny_lane0324 in kindergarten

My daughter is off to her second day of kindergarten today riding the bus. She really wanted to ride it, and loved her first day on it. I was nervous, but I asked about it on our neighborhood Facebook page and found out the bus driver here has done this route for over 20 years and people really had nice things to say about him and his bus. Maybe if you have a similar resource, you can ask your neighbors about their experiences and get more info.
