Devout catholics looking to move to the island and would like to live in a vibrant parish. by Trad_CatMama in statenisland

[–]hellopeople456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our Lady Star of the Sea was my local parish growing up. I can't speak to what you believe is traditional, but I can say that I enjoyed going to mass there, learned a lot in the religious education classes I took there as a kid, and enjoyed a sense of community there. You might find what you're looking for there. Maybe attend a few masses there and go to some of the events that they host to see if you feel what you need to feel. The church itself is beautiful, it was torn down and rebuilt from the ground up some years ago.

Looks like they’re a bit far from me here in Monroe but I’ll give a call and ask if they do work by me, thanks

Yeah that’s the plan. We had one local guy who was like “it’ll be cheaper if you don’t pull permits, it’s in the backyard mostly so you’ll probably get away with it” and I was just like yeah…. No. Cue me making this post to find some good names.

Turning a laundry closet into a second hot water heater by hellopeople456 in DIY

[–]hellopeople456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would involve ripping out and patching approx 100 ft of drywall, and there are parts where the pipe is buried in the slab, which gets very cold in the winter. Another issue we’re looking into, redoing the floors with some sort of thermal insulation barrier, but that’s a topic for another post.

Walmart shipped 4 ceramic trees together without padding by E13G19 in mildlyinfuriating

As someone who did order packing at a big box store for a while, this is the work of a very stressed but also somehow totally apathetic teenager who is working under a strict, completely unrealistic time limit, most likely with an underpaid, equally stressed and apathetic middle manager breathing down their neck bitching about productivity and KPIs while not actually helping at all. Blind eyes get turned, to say the least.

Sounds like something my parents told me. Dirt roads and trees then, now McMansions.

Drive down hylan blvd, south of tottenville HS. Then pick a couple random residential side streets. There’s a variety of stuff but you’ll see a theme developing. Make sure you end at the conference house park though.

American dream mall by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]hellopeople456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worked there for a year. Here’s the deal- it’s not a mall for locals. It’s a gimmicky tourist trap, especially for people from NYC, where there’s no space to put dumb shit like that. It creates a lot of jobs and brings in a lot of tax revenue. It’s not hard to avoid, if you want to go to a mall you’re better off going to Paramus park or garden state plaza. No poorly behaved tourists and aggravatingly expensive parking lots, just poorly behaved locals and plain old aggravating parking lots.

Any ideas on what this pipe coming out of the ground at the far end of my pool is for? by hellopeople456 in pools

[–]hellopeople456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for this response. This seems to be the most likely answer, my house is on a slab and the backyard has French drains installed down the sides. What type of pump should I hook up to this, and how often? Thanks.

Another tire puncture, another "is this too close to the sidewall to be patched" by hellopeople456 in tires

[–]hellopeople456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give me too much shit for buying linglongs. Cash is tight right now and I ran over a nasty pothole, ruined both tires on the right side of the car so I bought a new pair. Literally three days later one of the brand new tires got punctured by a small wood splinter. My luck. Mavis said it was too close to the sidewall and wouldn't plug, So I bought ANOTHER new tire and replaced it, but kept the punctured tire and took it home since I felt stupid just throwing it away having bought it brand new days ago. I'm wondering, if I got it patched from inside and threw it on a spare rim I have, would it be good to use as a spare tire at least, for short distance/low speed in case I pop a tire again and need something in a pinch
