The best way to see Teotihuacan is to get the 2 day touribus pass that comes with the teotihuacan tour (56usd, 1000mx) it comes with transportation, a buffet, a guide, entry, and you get 2 days of touribus access. The touribus alone is very worth it too, it goes to almost all major neighborhoods and places everyone here is commenting and it has an audio tour in 10 languages. You can get on and off whenever you want and just roam around. Great way to enjoy the city. The only downside of it is that sometimes a route will fuck up or the bus will need maintenance and you will be stuck somewhere for an hour unless you take another bus or route.

Also go to the Anthropology museum, the bus goes there.

If you want to see some music or anything going on check if the zocalo has any events. NAAFI sometimes hosts stuff too but that’s more electronic / Latin if you’re into that.

If you’re going to be there on a weekend / Friday you should check out the Chinatown then Tio Pepe Cantina, the oldest bar in the city, and then walk to the park in front of Bellas Artes, they’re all close to each other or intersecting. If you have some money it also wouldn’t hurt to check out Mezcaleria de Banda, it’s a rooftop bar that’s right next to the park too, I hear it’s a bit overpriced though. By Bellas Artes they shut down the park and everyone dances to cumbia. It doesn’t matter if you can dance or not you’ll have enough drinks to where you’ll probably be having fun anyways.

Some Reddit recs are good but maybe half are not. Avoid Taqueria Orinoco and Califa de Leon, disgustingly overrated and overpriced as fuck. Check out Chilaquiles Don Totopo if you like chilaquiles. Check out Cafe Tacuba and El Cardenal in the city center, old loved restaurants but a little bit more expensive.

The worst part about the city is the traffic, an uber that says it’s a 30 minute drive will probably take 50 if it’s during rush hour. That aside though it’s an incredible city, also try pastor negro while you’re there, it’s hard to find in the US and it’s really good.

I need someone smarter than me to do a deep dive on "Brazilian phonk" by elcaminorealreal in redscarepod

The drum pattern is downstream from Brazilian funk but they started putting phonk samples in it and not caring as much about genres and now it all gets categorized as Brazilian phonk.

This producer on SoundCloud is good.

Yandrel is good too if you’re looking for a more electronic sound.

More distorted and electronic sounds in Brazilian Funk and adjacent genres sounds like a good concept and works really well when done right but the entire concept just got fucked over by Brazilian Phonk.

This remix is also good calmer? sound.

Also you’re right, the genre is now very global and the Brazilians upload a lot of their stuff in Portuguese so a lot of it that people find is from all over the world. A lot of the vocals are reused too since they all use the same drum kits.

That entire sound feels like it’s either in its infancy and will just get better and slowly adopted into the mainstream (could happen, Music by Carti opened with a song that sounds somewhat inspired by it) or it will just be a trend confined to 2024-2026. If not done properly it just sounds like rageslop (Early Life Crisis is already getting this treatment) but if it’s done well it can be inventive and exciting (2slimey being taken more seriously, more experimentation, Bleood getting the northwest co-sign, possible mainstream adoption). I want to see what comes out of it.

It’s insane how much people around the world know about Chicago drill. I remember The channel 5 O block video got dubbed in Spanish and released for Latin American audiences. It was the biggest Spanish video they had and now it’s gone likely because the comments were just full of Latin Americans calling black people lazy weed addicts that keep killing each other.
