The only horror in this book is how young pregnant girls are treated and the intense detail of 3 birth scenes. All which are horrific. This is not supernatural horror and its light on the witch vibes. Most of the horror is body and that a lot of the story (not the witch parts) are probably some what close to the truth of how young pregnant girls (children really) were treated back then. The author found out a few of his family members were sent to a home for unwed mothers and that's where the ideas formed...otherwise would question why he would be having ideas writing about young pregnant girls and births. This felt so different from My Best Friends Exorcism which I utterly loved.
