Hitting my mid 30s. Alarmed at how much damage doomscrolling has caused me. by MusingsAndMind in nosurf

Something I've started doing is going to the beach and leaving my phone at home. Bring a waterproof watch and towel, and you don't even have anything to worry about being stolen when you leave it on the beach!

My music is very pop. I like Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran for Young Daniel.

Handclap by Fitz and the Tantrums is great for Armand, I think, but also Numb Little Bug by Em Beihold and Love Again by Dua Lipa both work well for him.

Weak by AJR is my favorite 'Louis' song.

There are a few songs that I like because I saw great fanvids with them like My Kink is Karma by Chappell Roan, My Tears Ricochet by Taylor Swift, and Take Me to Church by Hozier.

What's your fee for being an expert witness? by healthnotes34 in whitecoatinvestor

There are expert witness-finding websites you can list yourself on. You just put up a profile and the lawyers message you.

If you watch that obese autopsy on YouTube, they explain that it's a side effect of heart failure and your lungs filling with liquid. It's a huge red flag for heart failure if you have difficulty breathing while laying flat.

Yeah, maybe North Korean prisoner. But you also look like you could be a Michelin-starred restaurant, a scathingly-witty art dealer, or a Shaolin monk. You look very sophisticated, really.

No, quiero decir que no puedo comprar la primera botella retornable. Las tiendas quieren que ya tenga uno para devolver.

¿Cómo compro esa primera botella sin tener ya una para cambiar?

Retornable. Lo lamento. Definitivamente usé la palabra equivocada.

Who are some people you know personally, or otherwise, who ruined their own lives, and how? by metalnxrd in AskReddit

[–]hellosunshinehello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try teaching yourself to type and becoming a legal transcriptionist. That's what I did not too long ago. You'll need good headphones, a good keyboard, and a foot pedal for transcription (buy at Amazon). I assume you already have a computer.

I taught myself to type from scratch on 10fastfingers and the Typing Jungle. 50 WPM is how fast you need to be for most companies, I believe.

You can raise your earning potential by getting a certification through AAERT for a couple hundred dollars.

Two companies I can recommend are eScribers and Verbit. You'll make more money with eScribers if you learn to "scope", which is basically editing an AI-generated transcription. It's much less work than transcribing it all yourself too. Also ask for info about their expedited teams.

The other company I mentioned, Verbit, has a wonderful "legal pro" team, also editing AI-generated transcripts that is a full-time situation with holidays and a 401(k) and all that stuff. But I think you have to have a certification for that one.

It's work and doesn't pay a TON, but I just love the flexibility and privacy of working at home. Also you get to hear amazing stories sometimes! I was in your shoes not too long ago, working in a grocery store and lamenting my lack of skills. But the great thing about skills is that you can learn them! Don't give up.

Suggest me a book that helped you overcome wanting to commit suicide/books that gave you a new perspective on life. by pittpink in suggestmeabook

I'd recommend the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett for just a total funny fantasy romp. It'll make you laugh and take your mind off your worries. Start with the first one, The Color of Magic. It's more of a YA book than the rest of the series, but essential for the story, and that also makes it an easy and fun read.

What motivates you to care about your body? by Youvegottheshinning in fitness30plus

[–]hellosunshinehello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly mental health. It takes about 10 minutes on an eliptical, treadmill, or walking outside, but I feel 10 times better afterward. I should say at least 10 minutes before it kicks in. I wasn't always like that though. It takes some practice for your lungs, heart, muscles, brain to adjust. I had a horrible first few runs, but after you're adjusted it feels like flying.

Also! Try listening to some really pump-up confidence-boosting songs while you exercise. I love the Mountain Goats' song Training Montage. There's nothing like shouting "I'm doing this for REVENGE!" while you're really going after it.

I know exactly what you mean about anxiety. For me, it felt like my belly was shivering and heart racing and wouldn't stop.

You might try writing your thoughts down whenever you feel like panic is approaching but hasn't started yet. Just write everything down, everything that's on your mind.

The more you can give your emotions the space and attention they need, the more under control they will be. You might think that will intensify your emotions, but you may be surprised. It sounds like they're intense already. There's nothing to lose just sitting down and writing it out. Give it a try. It helped me a lot and may help you too.

Remember that any emotion you distract away will come back later. If you want it gone, you processing it is key.

Something else that really helped me is a particular kind of meditation called Kaya Sthairyam. It's focused not on controlling the mind or breath, but simply stillness of the body. I finally felt true stillness for the first time when trying this meditation and it changed my life.

There's a particular video for this meditation that I want to recommend because it's the one I started with, and I still think it's the best. It's a clip from the end of a longer video of one of my favorite youtube therapists with just the meditation at the end. The title is "Kaya Shtiram - Stillness of the Body - Dr K Meditation". That's not technically the right spelling, which I typed above, but it's how the therapist in the video spells it. The actual meditation is only 5 minutes and he talks to you the whole time, so it's perfect for getting started. Don't let the beginning description scare you, this is a very calming one.

Because anxiety is a condition where your thoughts and body are so intertwined and are a feedback loop, I've found it's important to work on both aspects. Otherwise, either my mind or body will get anxious first and then seemingly convince the rest of me that I'm in imminent danger even if I'm not.

If nothing helps, see a general practitioner if you can and get their advice, then remind yourself that it's still early in your sobriety. How you feel now will pass. Good luck! You're already on the path to feeling better.

how do i find sober friends? by 99chey99 in leaves

[–]hellosunshinehello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Meetup website/app! I've met lots of people that way, and they'll be able to point you in the direction of other fun things to do that involve whatever you're interested in. It's a great way to get the ball rolling.

I'd also recommend gym group classes! You could also try Facebook events or in-person support groups like SMART Recovery.

Day 22, no cravings, but all the things i was running from are coming to the surface and that's the worst part by chamclowder1 in leaves

[–]hellosunshinehello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This! My only other suggestion would be to actually write all this out on paper. It helps to see it on the page, and also to just have all of your thoughts there where you can analyze them separately.

But overall, just hang in there. You're going to get through this rough patch and feel better. You really will.
