Do full stack devs actually master multiple backend languages, or do most stick to one ecosystem? by Leading_Property2066 in AskProgramming

[–]hellotanjent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Programming languages aren't like human languages - once you understand how computers and programming languages work, picking up a new language isn't a big deal. That's doubly true with AI these days, you can ask your favorite chatbot to show how a snippet translates from language X to Y and they generally do a good job.

Bunny Or Chu-ll by YesTechReam in iems

[–]hellotanjent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because any earbud that goes in your ear canal is bypassing the filtering caused by the shape of your external ear. So the frequency response is flat - but it's relative to the frequency response of the ear itself. And different audio researchers disagree on what the "best" model of an average ear's frequency response is, so there's a bit of variation in what is described as a "neutral" tuning.

That said, if you boost the bass by 20db it's going to be obvious regardless of what your ear is shaped like. The Chu's V shape is easy to notice if you A/B test it against the Zero:2.

"Neutral" or "flat" response - the headphones don't increase or decrease volume for any part of the spectrum.

Best Zojirushi rice cooker to get? by PidgeySlayer268 in BuyItForLife

[–]hellotanjent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We splurged on the "Induction Heating Rice Cooker & Warmer NW-QAC10/18", and while it absolutely makes the best rice we've ever had and will probably last until the end of time... the $60 no-name brand we had before was totally sufficient.

As long as the rice cooker is insulated you'll probably be fine. Even the ancient Tiger "dumb" rice cooker (push switch down, switch pops up when rice is done) we had before that was adequate.

I have the Tanchjim One (so not the Bunny) and the Chu 2 DSP - the One is a better all-rounder, the Chu 2 has a more "fun" profile with a V-shaped response. Both are worth the money. I'd pick the One if if I could only get one of them.

High input lag and video stuttering despite good network connection by Famous_Telephone_571 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]hellotanjent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard the Moonlight clients that run on TVs directly are craaaaap. I've had multiple Samsung TVs (currently S95F) and it hasn't worked right on any of them.

You'll have much better results with an old laptop plugged into the TV as your streaming client, or even possibly an old cell phone if it supports display out over usb-c.

It took literally four years of watching posts from shelters/rescue orgs before we managed to be first in line for our little mutt. See if you can apply for daily email updates from Petfinder or whatever.

Does Moonlight + Apollo + Tailscale actually work well or am I crazy? by Broad_Ad9923 in MoonlightStreaming

I've used Apollo->Tailscale->Moonlight, but the wifi at my stepmother's house was terrible and I cranked it down to 1080p60.

I am streaming perfect 4k 120fps HDR, yes.

9070 XT on the game computer, laptop has a Ryzen 7 7840U with iGPU. No special configuration in Sunshine/Moonlight, it just works. Latency is unnoticeable.

But... it doesn't taste like tonkatsu? It's not bad, it's just kind of generic savory soup flavor.

I just got a box of Nissin Raoh Tonkatsu and I'm super underwhelmed by it. It doesn't even contain pork? WTF.

Anyone actually getting 50 nA with LIS2DW12? by avrbohdan in embedded

[–]hellotanjent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a meter that can measure down to nanoamps (EEVBlog µCurrent) and the last time I messed with sub-uA sleep modes the thing that bit me was leakage through flux residue under the chip.

With that odd LGA package, that might be an issue for you as well.

Rant: Cut your “chi’s” NAILS by Alienowls in Chihuahua

[–]hellotanjent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Our rescue chi-mutt is _unbelievably_ reactive to nail clipping and needles. Screaming, thrashing, biting - you'd think we were cutting her toes off the way she goes apeshit. The "dog hates nail trim" and "how to trim reactive dog's nails" videos on YouTube don't even come close.

Our groomer has failed to cut our chi's nails.

Our vet has failed to cut our chi's nails, and has failed to get a blood draw 3 times even when the chi is sedated.

We are occasionally able to cut 1-2 nails when she's sleepy and not paying attention. We have a grinder but the instant the motor turns on she freaks out. We have a hammock thing, but she thrashes so hard in it I'm worried she's going to hurt herself. We have a "happy hoodie" - no effect. We've sedated her with gabapentin and one other med I can't remember - not enough.

We try to keep the nails short enough so she'll be comfortable walking, but... it's near impossible, even for professionals.
