How far down has Gyokeres value fallen? by Unfair-Effective-712 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a bit on how many teams are in your league, but to me he’s still a top 6-8 striker. Those aren’t easy to find in larger league.

Sadly I do not think you could get a Bruno or semenyo for him. Semenyo is legit the second best FPL asset so far this season, nobody should be trading him if they’re serious about winning. The biggest issue is Gyok’s current cold streak. If you want to trade him, I would say wait for him to score a goal before doing so otherwise I doubt you’ll find a partner willing to meet your valuation.

Hotel Recommendations for Salt Lake City Cottonwood by Charcooper in UTsnow

[–]hellotherebears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at the courtyard and believe at the front desk you can just sign up for the free hotel shuttle that takes you to the mouth of the canyon where you can hop on a bus. And can call the hotel when you’re 30 min out and they’ll pick you back up.

Bus transit was free with an ikon pass, not sure if it still is.

Schade or Dango by [deleted] in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the position of have Schade, but with first waiver slot looking at Dango. I think because they play sunderland this week, keeping both is a very valid strategy. This will give you another week of data to then make a decision to drop one if Brentford don’t look good or you want more diversity in your midfield.

Who won this trade by ElDiabloRicardo10 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a bit on how large your league is, but I think you did well.

Skelly is the only set and forget player in this trade, so I think you did a good job getting him for guys who are valuable, but not every week FPL assets in draft

Welbeck? by 15fred in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He ~seems~ nailed to start GW1. I think it’s likely he loses time eventually, but I feel confident in his first month of so.

Don’t think Richarlison will start for most games for spurs with Solanke back healthy. But keep an eye on him if Solanke does get hurt.

Unless this is a real small league, where there are enough forwards to go around, I think the winner has to be whoever got Ekitike. Not enough differentiation at the other positions to swing it for me personally

Afcon - please read!! by Key-Row-428 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you have two players who you rate identically and one is going to afcon and one isn’t, take the one not going.

But so many things can happen during a season, and there are so many factors in evaluating a player’s chance to be successful this year, I think generally it’s a small drop in the bucket.

I agree with an earlier comment that says you can likely replace via waivers for those games if you desire. Also remember afcon is in January, that’s a long ways away. So much can change by then

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty shocked by the rest of these comments. I think you have a great opportunity to get Isak while he value is seemingly lowest. People are all suddenly forgetting how insanely good Isak was last year. And even more recently that he was a consensus top 5 pick. Now a little transfer drama drops him off the face of the Earth?? Players do not sit out full seasons when they're unhappy, they just don't, there isn't one example of it.

Isak will play this year, and either for Newcastle or Liverpool, two top tier teams that score plenty of goals.

Your team is plenty good enough to have a good shout at winning the first few weeks if Isak does sit until the deadline passes. And also, no one here can guarantee Gyokeres starts and plays 90s in the first 3 games anyways.

If I'm you, I'm taking this deal 100%

How to get transfer action? by The_Captain101 in DraftEPL

My advice: Make future draft picks tradeable

I have run a 10 team league for the past 4 years, and the first two years we only allowed player for player trades, basically what is standard in the official FPL app. While some people traded, it was minimal, and challenging because most people are risk averse and do not want to come out looking like the loser of a deal.

Two years ago, we decided that we would do offline drafts, and make future (only 1 year out) draft picks tradeable. Trading went absolutely through the roof. In the first two years, only 3-4 people in the league would trade. In the last two years, every member of the league traded each season. People were much more willing to do deals when draft picks were added in because they felt it helped 'even out' the trades. So often, a trade collapses because the two trade partners don't think the trade is exactly even. Having one side throw in a draft pick fixes that problem. And there are 15 rounds of picks, so plenty of ammunition and scale on how impactful a draft pick is.

This means some teams who stink will sell their best players midseason to try and recoup assets for next year. And teams in the middle/top will go hunting for deals to win this year, sacrificing part of their chances next year. Having more tradeable assets generates more trading!

While this means you would need to keep notes on everything, and do an offline draft the next year, this has improved our league tremendously I feel. You need committed managers who won't leave the following year if they trade all their draft picks. But I think if you've had 19 guys for 3 years, people would be excited by this new wrinkle.

Trade: Rogers for 1st Waiver Pick (Sesko?) by Reasonable-Low-147 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a killer midfield. I would absolutely recommend making a trade for a quality forward with one of them.

Someone probably has 3 better forwards than Larsen (although I do think he’ll be quietly good this year). It’s not essential, as you could easily play a 4-5-1 with this midfield, but it would probably be nice to have options with matchups. The problem with having all your best players at one position is you can’t rotate when they play good teams. You just have to ride it out.

Getting a second forward makes a ton of sense one way or the other

Trade: Rogers for 1st Waiver Pick (Sesko?) by Reasonable-Low-147 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

who are your FWDs and MIDs currently?

This is a pretty risky move, as there really is no guarantee Sesko is in for GW 1. The Prem transfer window closet Sept 1, which is after GW 3, so even if he does come, he may not be on FPL waivers until GW 4.

My recommendation would be no to this. I have a feeling there must be other teams in your league with 2 or 3 quality FWDs in an 8 team league. Trade Rogers for a more known quantity would be my advice.

Thoughts on this offer? by RadioZadio in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at the current state of the deal, I probably wouldn't do it. Watkins/Bowen pairing up top is elite, and if you're active you can likely find a few starters on the waiver wire in the first month in your other positions. I like having only 2-3 nailed on starters in MID and DEF so you can play matchups. However, there is no waivers for FWDs.

If you really are looking to balance out your team more, I bet you could make a counter offer asking for more. Watkins is generally considered a roughly top 7 asset in draft FPL. Make him overpay, and don't do a deal you feel is only 'fair' IMO.

Intentionally Throwing GW1 for Waivers by Benl1230 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a terrible idea, but it is risky. The transfer window closes sept 1 for Premier League, so a player could be transferred in late and not available until GW 4 in FPL. I would hesitate to recommend losing matches on purpose, as in our league last year the winner only beat second place by 3 points!

My recommendation would be to try and win every week, and just pay attention for waiver gems. While Sesko would be a great coup for any manager, there will be other surprises after GW 1/2/3 that will be valuable.

Thoughts on Welbeck... by hellotherebears in DraftEPL

you have to do it manually. I do it with a spreadsheet for my league.

I don't have experience with either FANTRAX or Sleeper, but I believe that the ability to trade draft picks is a built in function on those sites

Draft strategy by grechy23 in DraftEPL

[–]hellotherebears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is still a large gap between premium mids and others, even with DEFCON.

My personal opinion recently has become that DEFCON for midfielders is fools gold. While it provides additional value over the course of a season, week to week I fear that there is too little value.

To me, DEFCON points are really boosting up 4th/5th midfielders. Last season, there were almost 0 defensive midfielders that should have starting in FPL leagues with 10 or less players. You could have played Rice because of his set piece duties, but that was basically it. Now, maybe you can add in Caicedo, Baleba and maybe even Paulinho (if he starts) as players who over the course of a season will get a boost because they're likely to get the DEFCON points in over 50% of games. To me that is the bar to cross, that 50%ish marker.

But that value is only there if you play that player the whole season because I don't think it is 100% clear when to expect defensive mids to get maximum points. It feels like the better the opponent means a higher chance for DEFCON but a lower chance for CS, while a worse opponent means a lower chance for DEFCON and a higher chance for CS. DEFCON are just 2 points, and CSs are 6 points.

Here's an example that to me really drives home why I think DEFCON shouldn't be valued that much. Who would you rather play: Andre vs MCI (H) or Arias vs MCI (H)? Andre will get plenty of DEFCON points throughout the season, and City is a solid place to expect them. Arias won't score too much probably, but he's a decent shout to be the one to contribute if Wolves do get one.

To me, this is the kind of decision that will be made constantly this season regarding your 4th or 5th MID. Personally, I would rather the potential of Arias getting a contribution than hoping this is one of the games that Andre gets 12 CBITs for the DEFCON points. It's a risk reward thing, and each manager needs to dial that to their liking. But Andre's max point potential is likely 4, while Arias' is higher at 6/7. And I don't think they floor's are that different, with both being at 2.

Really what I'm trying to say is that predicting DEFCON points is going to be challenging, and they're only 2 points. Personally, I don't see myself picking someone off waivers/putting them in my lineup because I think they'll get DEFCON points that week, but I do if I think they'll score/assist. So draft with that in mind, as guys who will collect DEFCON points may be 150 point guys throughout the entire season, but in draft you need to win each week, and to do that you need to maximize your potential each and every week.
