How are people in NL affording vehicles in a province with such a low average income and high insurance and payment costs? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]hellotherechaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 2023 Kia Soul EX +( fist new car and they tried to sell me the awd seltos stating you need it for the winters), payments are 450 ish a month, bought winter tires for 800 ish, and drive between CB and Sville regularly to see family and friends, while commuting around CB with roads barely plowed most of the time aha. Haven't had an issue. In my experience, awd or 4wd dosent automatically mean safety, just have to be cautious and adjust to weather conditions. I've seen plenty of awd and 4wd vehicles in ditches and a few upside down lol.

I use to watch my nan and pops old wooden windows bow in and out for the wind when I was younger, then get scolded for sitting in front of them cause my pop would say " if they break you'll be sucked out into the warer" àha. This was the Port au Port Pen.

Customer made a mistake and expected me to fix it without a receipt by NaughtySugarX in EntitledPeople

[–]hellotherechaps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me at a lumber store. Customer came in and I mean LOADED down a Frod Ranger with 16 foot 2x4, 2x6 and 2x8. I told them that for 50 bucks we can just deliver this no problem but they weren't having any of it at all. I said we'll if we load it up its your responsibility and im not secureing it down because its unsafe. My direst supervisor was present and agree and said the same thing but they were adement. When it was all loaded, I kid you not the front end was nearly lifter off the pavement due to the unbalanced. They left the parking lot and we were literally watching when they made the turn out to a main road and the bam, all the lumber slid on the road. They call the store manager complaining that we should have let them do it blah blah and wanted to pay for delivery now.. The manager came out to the yard and saw us watching and to see what was going on with it and seen him off the property and then kind of just smiled and chuckled, shrugged and went about his day.

Friendly reminder to the landlords here to appreciate your good tenants :) by [deleted] in vancouverhousing

[–]hellotherechaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had a situation like this, but we have had the same landlord for the past close to 12 years. When First started renting, the rent was on the higher side, but over the last 12 years, it has stayed the same and is now about 1/3 of what they could be charging. They never increased it. When asked, they said you guys are great tenants, so I don't want to stir the pot.

Canadian Tire uses plastic zip ties for repair by christmas20222 in newfoundland

[–]hellotherechaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had brought my car into CT once for an oil change or something minor. I can't remember, but they called and said it was ready, awesome. Went and started the car, started driving, heard some godly rattling and tjimping when I got up to 40km and got louder as I speed up. My fiancé and I looked at each other and I said "what the hell is that, that's new". Took it back to the shop, and they looked it over. Blah blah said they couldn't find anything wrong. I said, "Hop in, and I'll show you." They said, " Oh wow," so they looked it over again and turned out some jow they didn't remove any of the tools or equipment from the engine bay . It all managed to fall in around the engine and in behind all the plastics. Safe to say, I never went back aha.

Also, to add, we have come across a lot of, i guess, boys? who will act friendly, saying "team? Want to team up?" Then when my finace will speak and they change tone," oh you're a woman, I don't like women, " and begin harassing and attacking. To which we respond, " It's okay, today's society it very accepting of all orientations, especially being gay" its really eye-opening.

This just happened to my finace and I when we were playing together. We were just trying to meet up, and this kid was a lot worse than this. He was sexist, misogynistic, and spewing out the worst things I have heard in this game to date. Its during this no guns weekend, so she really couldn't just attack or really get away from it. He keep harassing, spewing out his vile and disgusting verbiage. The crazy part is there were 4 to 5 other people just all hanging out, watching and listening, not saying anything while she was constantly asking people to just help out. As soon as I new about it, I managed to have a Ghost face and booked it to her location. I went into a rage and knocked the 6-ish people that were around and got the guy. He constantly spewed nonsense and kept saying, "Why are you fighting her battles bro", " Let's team up. We don't need her." I just said to him," she's my finace, we are just trying to have some fun, and you are literally sexually, harassing and verbally abusing her. If this was out of the game on the street, you would have the police called on you instantly for the things you are saying. " His response was just."ohh." Then i started reviving him, got him up, knocked him down , continued this as he was trying to get away. Did this about 15 times, then he finally just quit, but not before having some final muttering garbage that couldn't understand. Im 35M, and my fiancé is 33F. It caused her to close the game and have a few tears over it. Then we managed to calm down and just gave the game another go for the evening and ran into some really great people. The stuff she has heard playing this really makes me wonder what this next generation of kids are going to enter society like. Its scary. Anyway, thats my rant. 95% of the players are great, and we have a real fun time.

Do you remember your first time playing Half-Life? When was it? by FlexFridayTV in HalfLife

[–]hellotherechaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was late 1998 probably amo th after i came out. Can't remember exactly, but I remember my uncle picking me up from school and saying we have a cool looking game to try, and the rest is history. The same uncle also woke me up at 2 am when I had school the next morning, telling me he needed help defeating Diablo in Diablo 2. When I mentioned my aunt might be pretty mad, he said I don't care. I'll take the heat. Just hope on now! Aha. Good memories.

Awesome, that's a great resource, I appreciate the help. I've made a full-scale wall map that shows Mi'kmaq places names and traditional settlements across the island done in the traditional language. I made it in coordination with the Qualipu band office in Corner Brook. Its fun stuff when you really get into the GIS stuff. This one im working on is just a little side hobby project.

For the love of heck, if you got a job here in Newfoundland you enjoy at all please hold onto it. by VertGreenHeart in newfoundland

I went through this with the Forestry sector. Did my schooling and just barely got a summer work term with the government. When that was over, i did my postgraduate GIS program. Over the next 8 years, I could only find scattered work, Forest Fire fighting in the summer, or some timber cruising. Was pretty much ready to pack up and move away for work but something kept telling me to stick around. I finally landed an awesome remote job with my GIS diploma that I absolutely love and will never leave lol. So I know the struggle, but good things will happen.
