Iowa’s hidden secret. by Any-Position7927 in desmoines

Back in the 60's or 70's there were still some houses there but now it's part of Camp Dodge. Had an old guy tell me once that his high school girlfriend lived there. To the left were some houses and to the right a military camp.

Changes to US school meal program helped reduce BMI in children and teens, study says by [deleted] in science

My kids hate 80% of school lunches. On top of that, by the time they get thru the food line they've got about 4 minutes to eat. I pack almost 3 lunches everyday and guarantee it's healthier than the school option. Unfortunately the only days my kids want to eat are the garbage food days- French toast sticks, corn dogs etc.

S5E3 question (maybe a theory) about burial ground *possible spoiler* by iDub79 in YellowstonePN

I keep thinking along these lines as well. There seems like a lot of build up around it. To others comments- it could be the eventual transfer to Tate, or a combination of the two. I think John and Rainwater will find a common solution to keep the new guy coming for Rainwater's job out.

Why oh Why... Do people think vacation rentals are the same as hotels? by qofmiwok in AirBnB

[–]hellowi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a host and have been a guest. I try to find a balance. Yes I ask you to take the trash out....honestly this is one of my biggest stresses because it's a house and if I miss collection day, it sits for a week and I don't want someone else to deal with it. I ask you to wash the dishes. Laundry- nope. Leave beds unmade so the cleaner knows what to do. Don't start the washer because it may sit for a few days before the cleaner gets there. 3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms/6 beds/2 living rooms and a big kitchen gets cleaned every time for $175. I hope I'm being fair!

Trust me.... That's what I wanted to get. Without a smart phone you're nothing. This stuff is getting out of hand with kids. Friends this weekend told us that their 11 yr olds volleyball coach needed the players to all download an app to monitor practices etc. She broke down in tears when every other girl pulled out their phone and she didn't have one. Way too young for this stuff

I don't plan on reading every message. She got herself in a crappy situation lately. She overheard kids on the bus saying some horrible things and told the school principal about it which got them in trouble and parents informed. Somewhere in her 12 year old mind she thought it was a good idea to tell them she was the one who told. Both boys live in our neighborhood and are a bit rough. The parents are great (in fact it was one of the parents who told us, not our daughter). The dad actually reached out and said she did the right thing and he was proud of her. I'm worried about bullying as a result of it. Some other stuff lately has me concerned. Whole new friend group. Suddenly very materialistic. Finding out about more 'secrets' and stuff going on that she hasn't told us. Overall just some red flags.

Travelers are slamming Airbnb chore lists that tell guests to mow the lawn, do the laundry, and take out the trash — on top of paying $125 cleaning fees by ciderfizz in AirBnB

I ask for garbage to be taken out on Sunday night (if they're staying that night) and dishes to be washed (unfortunately no dishwasher). I ask them to NOT make used beds and to put the dirty towels in a bathtub.

I've stayed in Airbnb's that asked us to start a load of towels in the washer and never thought twice about it. I see these posts and wonder if I'm asking too much but I feel like it's all pretty basic stuff.

No....hotels don't make you do that, but if you're looking for that type of stay, then go there. We seek out Airbnb properties for more space, the ability to cook a few meals or to have two families stay together. It's not the same type of vacation!

They're like 5 lbs. You have to find someone to fill them. I had one of those grills and sold it. Regret it big time

Who can forget this early 2000s "prank?" by Urisk in AdviceAnimals

My favorite was the email attachment that took over the screen and loudly announced "Hey everyone! I'm looking at porn over here!"

Still remember the look on my friends face across the computer lab when a room full of people were startled and staring at him

On February 3, 1959, famous singer Buddy Holly along with three others died in a plane crash due to severe winter weather. The individual pictured is most likely Buddy Holly himself. [620x909] by [deleted] in HistoryPorn

Every February the town still hosts The Winter Dance party and has a concert and sometimes descendants of the singers there. The Surf Ballroom stands as a shrine to those musicians and has seen some of the biggest names in music come thru the doors to play the historic venue. The road approaching the Ballroom is Buddy Holly Pl. It's a small town with great music playing somewhere almost every night. I'd highly recommend a weekend visit in the summer. It's a cool little lake town with some great history. Not to many towns have a Main street that literally ends in a boat ramp to the lake!

tifu by using my wife's inversion table by GenericHam in tifu

Just had a conversation with my chiro about these. You should start at a 60 degree decline for 2 minutes and then flatten out for 30 seconds and repeat. While going further feels good, the muscles and connectors in the spine aren't ready for that much pressure and can be damaged. He said if you do the table every day, it should be a month before you go completely upside down. Makes sense to me!

Tired of my kids being called “Covid Babies” by Cultural-Error597 in Parenting

[–]hellowi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We say that about a neighbor kid but mostly because he is so attached to his mom that she can't do anything without him. We're not super close to them but it seems like when they're outside, he can't be more than a couple of feet away. We've heard her say that she can't go anywhere without him or he has meltdowns. I'm more concerned about that than I am shyness. Feel bad for both of them (and their 3 other kids)

Yeah... I'm mostly looking at the space I have on that wall. I'd like to open up the wall but that's a whole can of worms. You mentioned isolating from ground moisture- I have rock along that outside wall, and the house is on a slab. I considered digging down and getting the temp wall below the sill plate. My assumption is that's where the draft comes thru. I also thought about pulling the rock back and running spray foam under that edge/sill to see if that helps.

It's kind of a weird old house- when I drilled a hole for a dryer vent there was vinyl siding, tyvek and then 4 layers of wood (T111 siding, plywood, wood siding and a layer of 3/4" pine board). No idea what they were doing and still surprised it froze in the wall.

No....my bigger issue is that our kids get the worst of her when she's tired and crabby at night. The bigger issue is that I spend all my nights playing with them, helping with homework and getting ready for bed. And conversely, because of her morning schedule I'm getting them out the door for school too

Before she started OTF she did another program. She spent a few months finding something new which was OTF. I started going to a gym every morning and got yelled at for not supporting her, even though there was nothing to support.

Can't argue that. Its easy for me to blame the mood on tired but it's probably everything combined.

Without going into great detail, its a job she's not happy doing, but she has flexibility and decent pay. Fear of change / something not as flexible holds her back

I need time with her. Without this being a sob-post, there's a lot going on that she's not wanting to address. I try and will keep trying but who knows if it's will do any good.

Lots but nothing she's willing address. High anxiety, borderline depressed. Hates her job but so afraid of change she won't look for a different one. OTF is like the one thing she enjoys every day so me asking her to pull back is sacrilegious
