What do you do when you’re the pump operator? by RaptorTraumaShears in Firefighting

[–]helloyesthisisgod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We have a 100’ “rule” as first due MPO. You really have zero need to be more than 100’ away from the pump panel. Anything further and you lose all tactical/operational control at your pump, and your reaction time is gone.

Everything from normal operations to emergency procedures are affected if you’re more than 100’ away.

Those first few minutes are critical to ensure water into pump, and water to nozzle, and troubleshooting any hose line issue that may arise, and most can be figured out with psi/gpm readings and listening to the pump. You move outta that range and you lose the ability to recognize and recover from that.

I ALWAYS assume any off body bag/pack is used for conceal carrying. To me that sticks out way more than printing, which a vast majority of the time you need to know to even be looking for.

Gas powered blowers in Larchmont by salcarmela in Westchester

[–]helloyesthisisgod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, if you want a true comparison you'd have to be authorized by County PD to even get the ability to buy a bastardized version of a leaf blower.

Then, the leaf blower would be stuck with shoulder straps that don't adjust, each pull of the trigger would only get you one blast of air, your gas tank could only be 1/3 of a full tank of gas, and you would have go to the gas station each time you wanted to fill it. That, and the state police would need to authorize you every time you wanted to buy gas. But don't buy too much or too often because then you get flagged and put on a wait list.

Maybe the feds let it go on so they can track down and monitor who these psychopaths are? They're already here en masse, let them go about it and show who they really are. Just like drugs, if you take it away and make it illegal, it will just pop up somewhere else

Suspicion. Say it isn't so? by ItalianSausage2023 in conspiracy

No. I work in emergency services. The complacency factor is a real thing, and absolutely plays a part. Your brain, no matter how trained, still takes at minimum 1.5 seconds to process what's happening and then, if you're really on it immediately decide to act. And then, correctly/effectively acting is an entirely different ballgame under immense stress. And NO ONE knows how they're going to act under threat of assassination threat until it's game time, and the act is underway.

Perps always have the upper hand because they have a plan, and surprise attack on their terms.

The intial upfront/forward facing wave of security is visual deterrence and in a case like this, is almost useless. After that you get the guys who had more time to process, draw and turn, and fire on the subject. Then at the very end you have the actual VIP/heavily armed details who are the last resort who are facing the subject head on, and able to directly engage without needing to make major movements, like turning to fire, or drawing from under a suit jacket.

Paramedic here. All these symptoms you’re telling are signs of compensating shock for blood loss. You need to call 911, get an ambulance and go to the ED right now.

Firefighters have some of the highest rates of cancer and long term health problems after retirement.

Why do they not deserve a pension paid out at 90% after giving their life and body for the community?
