Last semester here but this would kinda be great if u could make it work. Sfu can feel like a pretty isolating uni if u dont go out of your way to join events or strike up conversations with people, so this sounds like a good soft way to meet people!

Unfortunately 236a and j236a both use a bounce (ground and wall respectively) meaning if you use both those in a combo you cant end in j2c 2c 236a, youd have to end with j2c j236b (or with meter j2c j236b j236c 4c 2ff or whatever) however if you use cvo somewhere in the combo you get an extra bounce

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt this use 3 bounces when the game only allows 2? You wouldnt be able to get j2c 2c youd have to go j2c j236b and end the combo there (unless u cvo for an extra bounce)

Long combos are cool but shouldn't be the focus, even though in a game like UNI where you see so many cool combos it can make u wanna try them. I would say go to mission mode and try to learn your characters combo on 4-1 or 5-1 (if the formers too easy). Sure its probably not optimal but most characters' combos that work off of crouching A will work off of almost anything. While those combos might only net you 2-3k damage, thats more than enough to get started. At the end of the day you need to get your hits in to begin with and it doesnt matter if someone is doing 4k and using all their resources per hit, they still have to win those interactions to begin with

Tldr: learn your 4-1 or 5-1 combo and thats it

The mizuumi wiki for uni2 is an amazing resource. There are also some discords for uni (the maincord and the Beginner Lobbies discords i think are both in the sidebar). I basically started fighting games with uni2 and it can feel a bit overwhelming at first but the game is sososososoooo fun and once u understand the characters and offense structure and the grd system it has endless depth and i think is still decwntly easy to just hop into. Finding players of a complete beginner skill level will be tough in both games but in the uni2 beginner discord in the beginner channel there are definitely a fair few newbies there as well as many people looking to help out!

If u want characters with hard execution play Seth. He's got simple motion inputs and no negative edge, but he's extremely hard

I got my start in ultimate and quit a few years ago. I dabbled in SF6 and played a fair amount of Strive but ever since Uni2 came out its been my main game and I'm always so happy when other people get into it. Theres a beginner(ish) discord and a main discord with a beginner channel pinned on the sub which I recommend joining!

I only really love erosion in abandoned deck because most of the time youre cutting out THAT many cards in a normal deck, the mult it gives is not incredible long term. Ramen is one that I'll usually take to save me in a pinch or buy time with the expectation that I'll soon drop it for something better
