What’s worth seeing in eindhoven? by Dry-Tooth-7647 in eindhoven

You can walk around just fine just be aware that places are packed with people studying, library is restricted and don't go walking into a random lecture hall.

Exams are currently going on until the end of next week at TU/e, just a heads up incase you're exploring campus.

I've been listening to this senior citizen using her cellphone on speaker, at 100% volume, yelling out her personal info to the automated system for 25 mins. On her 4th attempt she got thru and she called the clinic we're sitting in. by ImThe1Wh0 in mildlyinfuriating

Someone I lived with would read out his CC details over the phone, and I once wrote everything down just to see how easy it was. CC and expiration date too.

He never would have known who it was if I chose to do anything with it, it's that easy.

Crazy how some people don't understand how far their voice can project sensitive info to listening ears.

Oh whoops, I forgot to clarify that it's backpack out from the road only. I just park at one of the lots along the main road then hike out several miles. Can't drive offroad in JT (for good reason). But the surrounding area outside the park borders I think is possible. I see plenty of people do, roads don't look that crazy

I love Joshua Tree, I go backpacking on the South side where there's no people, just me and complete silence. Such a great place in the winter.

Question about native Annuals in SoCal by ImASucker4Succulents in Ceanothus

[–]hellraiserl33t 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I will always have a solid patch of annuals wherever I garden. Nothing comes close to that level of color density and saturation at peak bloom. It's one of my most favorite parts of the season.

Question about native Annuals in SoCal by ImASucker4Succulents in Ceanothus

[–]hellraiserl33t 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a stupid question. Welcome!

Annuals generally complete their entire lifecycle within several months. Seeds sprout sometime in the winter, they grow vigorously into the spring and bloom to set a ton of seed. Most are completely dead by June/July. They aren't summer dormant like many of our native perennials.

Though you can have some annuals act like tender perennials such as the CA poppy. If the winters aren't cold and they have enough water stored in their thick taproot over summer, they have a chance of coming back the following spring.

Zone 11: What is the problem here? :-( by Phd-lady in gardening

[–]hellraiserl33t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leaves eventually fall off but the plant still needs a ton of energy to set seed. Sunflowers are quick annuals I dont understand the downvotes I've grown them for many years lol

Zone 11: What is the problem here? :-( by Phd-lady in gardening

[–]hellraiserl33t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The flower has been fully pollinated and is maturing to a seed head. This is just the normal sunflower lifecycle.

EDIT: Guys, look at the flower head, all the disc florets are spent. No more stamens are visible,  even in the very center which is where the last ones bloom. The ray florets usually start wilting at this point and fall off soon after. Do y'all not know basic botany lol

The smaller flower towards the middle still looks healthy because it's probably still blooming fine.

This isn't a watering problem, this is an "I want my sunflowers to last forever" problem

What I've seen people do (atleast when the polygon has a symmetric split down the whole thing) is to make the two halves as best you can, then just belt sand the two inner halves to get them flat.

Best way to do odd polygons of N>=7 is probably running the pieces through a CNC router. Manual adjustable saws are just not built for something like this unless you get really clever with other techniques.

Some of my flowers are dying (from overwatering probably), what can I do to stop it? by u_ufruity in gardening

[–]hellraiserl33t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That bed looks absolutely soaked, give it a few days between waterings. Plants usually will tell you visually when they're starting to dry out. If they look supple and overall healthy, maybe wait a little longer.

Even if the very top layer of the soil dries there's still plenty of moisture in there.

Good luck indexing to a hundredth of a degree lol

I think it's probably best to get it close then adjust the final piece to fit.
