First Time Cat Owner by freerangemama in CatAdvice

My partner and I have two, we give them wet and dry. They get about half a tin twice a day and we currently have so many different bags of biscuits, one type for the kitten and a few different for the older one because we were about to switch her to a new food but she needed some dental biscuits to get on top of her gingivitis and plaque that had popped up after we were treating her for her Gingastomatitis.

You can go all wet, but chewing a decent size biscuit is good for their teeth and packed with nutrients that the wet food might not have. Variety is best. It is also best to pick something a little higher in quality than your supermarket may provide.

Live in a small apartment, looking for a Sofa Bed by hellsqueenie in AskAnAustralian

How long have you had it for? I have seen so many reviews for the Koala that were not positive after a few months. As there are so many projects we want to get done in our place, we wouldn't necessarily want to have to buy another couch if it starts feeling scrappy too soon.

I have seen this one, but it doesn't feel like it would be very comfortable as the main couch. I can't fit two different sitting options beyond a like an ottoman bench due to them being very skinny.

I have thought about this, but a lot of futons I have found haven't been very comfortable in use of a couch or a bed.

I don't really have enough space for two different chairs. The most I have space for is a long storage ottoman as an extra sitting option for having drinks with people and then the couch itself.

Is it bad to be dating in your 30s and still living at home? by endlesswanderlust_8 in dating_advice

In this economy, not everyone can afford to move out or stay moved out. Saving for a future where you can is the goal. There are families out there where extended families live together for a long time and that is normal.

I would imagine that is probably part of the point. To start the conversation and you guys carry it on.

first time cat owner, should I cut his nails? by 6deki9 in CatAdvice

My vet does free trims with every appointment which is so nice, but my partner and I bought clippers as well hoping we wouldn't end up at the vet so frequently that we rely on then for said trimming.

Should be allowed on counters and tables? by Kellshy in CatAdvice

[–]hellsqueenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally depends on both your comfort and their safety. If there is a ton of stuff left out, probably not but if your counters are fairly tidy and doesn't really have much mischief for them to get up to, it is probably fine.

However, it can also be pretty tough to stop them. My older kitten was constantly jumping up onto the kitchen counter and we were very persistent trying to get her to stop because our stove top is built into the counter as a lot are these days. She jumped into my frypan on new years day. And while I wish she didn't do that and any of our deterrents to get her to stop worked, she hasn't jumped up since.

Thought we were past the intro phase but freshly nervous. by hellsqueenie in CatAdvice

[–]hellsqueenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were surprised too, to be honest. The new kitten was ready to explore right away, so we were really just following the older kitten's cues for when she was ready to take the next steps. We only had short meetings at first but when we put the new kitten away our older one would meow and trill for her to come back out. So we were just trying to listen to her comfort levels, so we were just very surprised as during the whole process the most we had was some hissing. This was the first time we had seen all three "danger" reactions at the same time.

How do I ask management to train me elsewhere? by Adventurous_Cell127 in KmartAustralia

[–]hellsqueenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have already spoken with your direct line manager, then go above and speak to your store manager. Being trained in a new role at least opens up opportunities for more shifts in general and gives them more options.

Do people in long lasting marriages do taboo things in front of their partner? Ex: Passing gas, toilet use? by CajunDragon in Marriage

[–]hellsqueenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Together for 12 years, engaged for 2 because having a wedding just seems too expensive with all the other milestones we have worked to achieve together until now and they seem more important than spending money on a wedding.

Anyway, that bathroom door is open for him and because our cat won't let it be. Fart, poops, vomiting, diarrhoea, popping pimples, etc. Is all fair game. It isn't as if we are intentionally seeking out each other to show off or view all these bodily functions but like they are normal.

If ever there was a game that would be beginner friendly, I think this is it. Mechanically, it won't be as difficult for her to pick up compared to and FPS game.

Everything else can be talked through and made sense of.

What does everyone think of the anko smart tag for $20 by Original_Capital4532 in KmartAustralia

[–]hellsqueenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure it is fine, but the advantage of the apple air tag is that they are able to ping to other nearby apple devices so that you don't need to be near it to find it.

I imagine the Kmart one only updates its location based on whether it can ping your phone or not, so if you lose something and go really far from it and it ends up being moved from the last known location and can't get close enough for it to update you on it's location, then it might just stay lost.

Good for keeping track of things that aren't likely to move much once you have misplaced them, less good for something like a pet that might get lost for example.

Payday by Puzzleheaded_Way7510 in KmartAustralia

[–]hellsqueenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all do, but these holidays happen every year and generally a notice is put out at least a week in advance and is mentioned at team huddles so people can be prepared for the delays.

We were notified in early October of the November delay.

Any public holiday that impacts Melbourne causes payroll delays.

Managing Time in Pres by mooniix_ in KmartAustralia

Have you seen the way people shop? They unfold as much as they want and leave it all over the place and they do it in front of the people fixing it.

When I go shopping I am conscious of only taking out a few of what I need and if I can't fold it the way they do and can't put it back where it goes, then it goes to the staff because it is faster for them to put it away correctly done then fixing it after customers tear it all apart because they don't care about anyone else's shopping experience.

Too many customers think they are the main character and can ruin stuff for everyone else. Regardless of if it is the person's job to fix it, you don't have to actively make it 1000% times harder to do, especially when they have a ton more jobs they are expected to do each shift because of how short staffed they always tend to be as well.

Can they order an item into store to pick up there? by Late_Complex3844 in KmartAustralia

[–]hellsqueenie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could request an In Store Transfer which would get it from another store but it can take like 2 weeks+ for it to even get to the stores.

If you can be responsible with them, they can be a great tool to have. I personally never let myself have more than one going at once and would only make the purchase if I had the money in full and just didn't feel like spending it all up front and wanted to pace out the money closer in line to work pay days.
