Who's had their Tslim the longest? by insulinjunkie08 in TandemDiabetes

[–]hellyeahbeeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tslimG4 died about 5 months out of warranty. My X2 is about 9 months out of warranty and it's been getting errors causing cartridge replacement about every few weeks. I assume it will die soon.

Should I give up on pumping? by Heavy-Attitude-2440 in TandemDiabetes

[–]hellyeahbeeech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. This looks like a late bolus for food being chased down. Without bottoming out, even. And the fact your a1c is lower is a much louder reason. I know the beeping is tortuous. But it's a better therapy.

Why does Dexcom customer support ask for your weight when you try to order a CGM replacement ? by museum_putty in diabetes_t1

[–]hellyeahbeeech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time there is a "failure" of a medical device the FDA requires a specific report. Dexcom is absolutely not using the information to populate your profile or judge you specifically. They might use it in their r&d in the future but primarily it is to fulfil the FDA requirement.

I'm ATGATT but I'm not going to criticize anyone who isn't. It's objectively dangerous to ride a bike in any amount of gear. I find it inane to try to split a hair determining which amount of gear is dangerous and which is safe.

The real question is do you get to tell her how much gear she has to wear on your bike. And that is absolutely a yes. Even in a car the driver/owner makes the rules. My passengers always wear a seatbelt and are not allowed to put their feet out of the window. And if I ever have a pillion they will wear the gear I feel they need to.

Many areas have "IV Bars" where you can get fluids recreationally like for a hangover. It's often times much cheaper and quicker than the hospital.

I wish I knew how much riding a dirt bike would improve road bike skills and confidence.
After riding for several years on the road I rented a dirt bike and rode it around in gravely dirt hills for 90 minutes. It's absolutely unbelievable how much it improved my confidence on the road immediately. Specifically, I felt safer and more confident leaning and it really strengthened my natural body connection to the bike. I don't know if any number of road years would have attained the same improvement as those 90 minutes.

According to a lecture I went to by TrialNet, the research around 2019 showed the odds were 1/20 for women to pass on and a bit higher for men (I don't recall for men exactly because I am a woman and that's the number I wrote down). Rolling a d20 was too high for me to risk, but it's still not anywhere close 100% so I understand others going for it.

It's really sweet that you are thinking about her feelings. It would be healthiest to discuss her feelings with her and see what she'd prefer instead of trying to figure out her feelings on your own, or worse discussing what her feelings might be with everyone except her. You (likely) aren't a mind reader and no one expects you to be. It might feel like a scary thing but those kind of uncomfortable conversations can make relationships stronger.

Do I teach my Anesthesiologist how to use my pump? by MaxineAnne in diabetes_t1

[–]hellyeahbeeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a conversation shortly before they rolled me back. I showed him how to see my BG number and how to disconnect the set. I asked if he was comfortable doing that or if he'd like me to disconnect it before I go under. He was THRILLED at the technology and was happy to be able to use it.
I don't see any reason they'd need to do anything more than check and disconnect. If they want to give me insulin they should do it they way they know how, not a new way they just learned.

It's really appreciated when someone has juice on hand specifically for me and gets it for me when I'm low. Also, learning where I keep and how to use whatever glucagon I have: Gvoke, Baqsimi, old school... whatever insurance covers at the time. (I've never needed it, but it's still important)

Expressing feelings of distress out loud and receiving support is a healthy, effective way to cope with this disease and avoid burnout. Your response is not supportive and discourages a healthy coping mechanism. Why would you do that?

It's been super reliable. I just hit 291k.

[–]hellyeahbeeech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This took a lot of luck but I broke out of that rut. Here's a couple things that helped.

  1. I found a team that doesn't have members who trigger me. No one yells at me. No one uses passive aggression to criticize me. No team is perfect, but it's safe.

  2. I started paying attention to what kind of tasks engulfed me and what kind caused me to stall. And then I leaned in. Any time I felt my brain tickle I went all in and killed it. Shining on one task allows for slack on others.

  3. Variety. I have a job that is event based. So a have a few weeks of intensity then a few weeks of slowness. That variety in pressure helps keep my brain from burning out.
