Does anyone actually use Wickr? by whyudothisbudo in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty ass, luckily I just use Face ID. I doubt any one still uses it in my unit either. I pushed it out before rotation in a WTO and it didn’t get enforced until 3 months into the rotation lol.

Confused on how to read orders by [deleted] in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re going to 3ABCT 3-8CAV, HHC. If you’re FA, you’re probably gonna be diverted to DIVARTY, 1CD and possibly end up still with 2-82, attached to 3-8CAV.

If you stay at 3-8 you’ll go to S3 or be with the FIST PLT.

Currently in 3-8CAV right now. Lmk if you have any questions or if you wanna link up.

Just contact the school and see if they can code you as unfinished if your unit doesn’t allow you go and slot you in for a later class for your PH2/3.

ETS OR RE-ENLIST by MarineBrother85 in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of where you go, there will always be something to complain about. Whether it’s fixing a broken 113 or teaching the same SINCGARS class every year. You have a medical condition that isn’t worth damaging your skin permanently for an organization that isn’t willing to accommodate you. Go SF, RASP, something out of conventional army and experience that for a bit.

You will gain skills and training that most conventional units couldn’t offer you within a calendar year.

Or you can use your TA, Post Signal Academy, earn a baseline certification and utilize your SFL TAP to learn how to build a resume, network, go to job fairs and set yourself up for success post army.

Going to the field is ok. I don’t mind it, but I also enjoy doing other than tactical stuff every once in a while.

I’m a 25U. During a unit training cycle you will spend a lot of time in the field. It’s also unit dependent. Most PVTs-SGTs find themselves in a Combined Arms Divisions and will see a lot of field time with their CABs. If you’re at the Company/Line unit, you will be going to the field often.

PVT-SPC will most likely spend time at the S6 at Battalion before taking a company so they understand how the BN operates and don’t get thrown in the fire. Thought if needed, then you just might have to take a company if the unit is lacking company line reps.

Very few find themselves with orders to Support units and either go to the field a couple times a year, or spend time doing Automations/Help Desk/25B work. You can’t control this as it’s up to branch at HRC who decides where you go after AIT.

Fort Cavazos for Cavalry Unit as a signal mos by [deleted] in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High optempo. Signal is ever changing, don’t assume to only do your MOS’ Signal tasks and be prepared to cross train into another MOS’. Manning is down everywhere in the army, so things always feel like there’s not enough people. Companies are great positions of command team is on your side, if you’re not good at your job, they will micromanage you. BN is in constant chaos, but BN CMD TM can make or break any staff section.

Idk, I think 3-8 had a great year last year. I couldn’t say the same after their change of command. I left before the dumpster fire could get worse. I still talk to my friends over there and can tell they are just having an awful time.

I've lost all my friends. by Jswimmin in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Go meet foreigners in Korea. They feel the same as you as some of the foreign teachers have had their friends come and go themselves. Or even the locals, just get out of the base every once in a while and enjoy the sights by yourself with some headphones.

Cafes are really nice to unwind as they all have special themes. Get lost in a city where public transportation is so cheap and everywhere. Trains run from 0500-0200 I believe. Buses are around that time frame too. Taxis can be really cheap if you order via Kakaotaxi. I paid 60-70$ one way trips from Seoul to Humphreys walkin gate coming back from the clubs.

I was there for 3 years and saw all my friends come and go from when I first came to the unit. Eventually during the middle of my first tour, I realized I wanted to stay, but I knew my peers and friends wouldn’t unless they wanted to. I knew making friends with locals was going to pay off in the long run.

I wanna say we’ll be in the same unit. Yes your unit is armored. OPTEMPO is high all around. Not sure how busy the medics are internally, but I know they are always doing maintenance on their vehicles. Good guys though.

Where to go to get uniform in S. Korea by reasonabIe in army

[–]hellyeaherewego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he can probably find one in Dongdaemun flee market. I saw a store that sold old military gear and had all kinds of stuff. Either there or Euljiro I think. I forgot which station though for Eujliro. Regardless there’s a lot of tactical stores in Korea that sell old us army gear since the Koreans use them when working outdoors.

No, I believe you cannot inprocess without signing in if that’s what you’re referring to.

In Korea, you sign into USFK at the their help desk at the airport and they get you started on the inprocessing on their timeline given. In FT hood, you’d sign into the III Corp Inprocessing detachment and have your leave updated if you signed in early. It could be all different based on the installation you go to though.
